To potentially opt out at the end of the year and sign an even bigger deal when the cap rises. We'll see if he does that though.
Yes, but chances are if he signs with a team like SA this year on 1+1 that he won't even entertain free agency next year. The entire purposes is to capitalize on the exploding cap, most players don't really want to go through the FA process over and over. Agents have to be licking their chops on all of these rumored 1+1 deals.
If he gets a 1+1 deal, then in 2016 he will have accrued enough years in the league to be eligible for a Max deal worth 35% of the estimated $90 million cap. Otherwise, he is currently eligible for 30% of the $65 million cap. This is a difference of a 4 year deal this year for $80 million total (offered by the Lakers already), versus a 5 year deal next year worth probably $160 million total.
All in on Llull! Someone mentioned Jeremy Lin. Blind-chase, waste-of-time, ain't-coming-here. Can hardly even get a sit down. Not that sit downs mean anything. Carmelo Anthony gave them a lap dance. We saw how that turned out.
I see where the logic is in this but has a player ever done anything like this before. It is unprecedented and really shady dealings between on organization and agent. If he signed with LA or Toronto for the 1+1 deal and then told them within 2-1/2 months on December 15th I want to be traded to Houston Rockets or San Antonio Spurs don't you think the hate involved in doing something like this is not worth it. I don't think LA or Toronto would appreciate being used as a pawn and it would be an extremely ugly situation. I just don't see it happening as there are too many reputations on the line between the organization, player, and agent. Would be hysterical if he did something like this to the Lakers though.
I'm not saying your wrong but if Daryl Morey shared your attitude towards free agency then Dwight Howard would not be in Houston right now.
Yeah. Makes absolutely sense to sign 1+1. Didnt know that about s+t that bballholic posted. In that case our pitch is that he should take the money now and not risk it.
I am not giving up on LMA wearing Rocket Red sometime. If he wants a 1+1 deal then we can just go after him next year when the cap rises.
Why wouldn't LMA want a 3 year deal with an opt out after year 3? He will still be young enough to command a max to take him through his age 38 season. A 1+1 gets him a potential max through his age 36 season. The cap is going to explode but no one knows what the next round of labor negotiations are going to bring so I don't see how anyone here can definitively state what these players will do contract wise.
