I really like the Harrell pick. He will flourish in the Rockets" system for the same reason Dekker will. Freedom. Once he shows in practice that he can hit that 17ft shot and/or 3pt shots in practice, McHale will give him the green light to let it fly. It is this freedom that allows players to just play basketball without so much thinking...allow instinct and flow of the ball movement dictate whether or not a player takes a shot. It then just becomes an issue of confidence, of which I think Harrell has a lot of. He develops that shot a bit he will be dangerous. He is not like Faried who has bad mechanics alltogether...so I think he can be better than him.
I wanted Jordan Mickey with the 32nd pick, but I never expected Harrell to fall out of the 1st round. Harrell is better than Mickey. I even thought that Morey might even take Harrell with the 18th pick. I don't think he is that good, but he will be a tough competitor.
Being in KY, watched a lot of his games. He was constantly double-teamed due to the inability of shooting of Louisville guards. Will be a monster if surrounded by capable shooters. Plays a lot like Faried and Griffin. High energy and high motor. Very tough. His game suits better with NBA.
To me this Kid is Kenneth Faried but with more strength on the block ( = more Defense). Faried puts up 12 and 9 in 26 mins. I'd expect the same level of production next year for Harrell.
I can agree with that. From possible lottery pick last year had he come out (Rick Pitino owes him money) to being drafted in the second round where all mock drafts had him going early to mid 20s in the first round. As somebody noted, this draft is Morey'a best in years.
He's too slow to be a full time SF. He reminds me a lot of Ben Wallace tbh with being undersized but ready to scrap inside, I expect he's Dorsey's replacement as the enforcer of the team. Hopefully he turns out better than Dorsey.
I can see the Faried comps, but I can also see the Joey Dorsey ones. Both were hyperathletic guys in the college game who pretty much made their living off dunks. Both may prove to be too undersized for the NBA game, but we'll see. Harrell seems to have more mobility, more hops, and hopefully more brains than Dorsey. Dorsey is obviously bulkier, and we will never ask Harrell to play the 5 unless Golden State is running Draymond out at center again or something. Just saying, for all those who are already all over this pick. He was #32 for a reason. He could pan out and turn into another of those high motor nose-for-the-ball undersized PF types, but you see examples all over the place of people who turned into stars (Rodman, Faried), those who made solid contributions and outplayed their draft position (Dejuan Blair, Carl Landry), and those who pretty much met their draft expectation and didn't stick in the NBA (Dorsey). So we'll see.

A few differences between Harrell and Dorsey: 1. Harrell has scored at a much higher clip than Dorsey did in college. 2. Harrell's FT% (59% last season) is much higher than Dorsey's (37.8% in his final college season). 3. Harrell is 21 years old. Dorsey was 24 years old when drafted. Joey Dorsey is just very unusual in terms of being incredibly old when drafted and being incredibly limited on offense. Harrell has at least flashed some more offensive potential.
This why I love guys like Montrezl Harrell. Guys who play hard and passion and give extra time to study the game and get prepare for it. I love it. Harrell will be a rotational player in his rookie year he won't play for the D-League at all. I'm glad the Rockets have him.
This guy is going to be something to watch. With Harrell's freakish long arms and athleticism, he will catch any thing in the vicinity of the basket for a rim-rattling dunk. Phi Slama Jama reincarnated, baby!!!
I don't think he'll ever be the defender or rebounder Wallace was but Harrell can become a better all around player. He actually has decent handles for a big man and his shot can definitely be developed.
