Could be a good defensive SF, he has the size for it just needs to work on speed and good defensive awareness.
I'm really excited about the new guys in our 2nd unit and I don't normally say that. I feel like Harrell is EXACTLY what this team needed in terms of a swagger/energy guy. Everyone is so low key on this team that we sometimes go through these long momentum less stretches where old man Jason Terry is the one who has to fire up the team. You wish he was a bit taller, but he actually has several inches more wingspan and reach than TJones(and Draymond Green) and surprisingly has a taller standing reach then Anthony Davis. The shot chart suggests he isn't a strong enough shooter yet, but the clips I have seen have him shooting with confidence and more importantly his shot doesn't look broken. ...so why did this guy slip?
Love the pick when I first watched Louisville at the beginning of the season he was who really seemed to stand out. Maybe it was his fresh hair cut or his energy but my first thought was this guys is going to be a lottery pick at some point. I still think he has that kind of potential, probably won't be a star but I think it's more likely than not he contributes fairly soon. And to get him at 32 is just a plus
What I'm saying is if this size PF is the new look PF type, then the attributes that Harrell brings compare comparably if not favorably to the names you just mentioned. He has the size, the quicks, better leaping ability than anyone u mentioned including Green, and he is a gym rat that wants to get better everyday. Let's not fool ourselves, put Draymond Green on many others teams and no championship happens without curry, Thompson, livingston, bogut and Iggy. Green being a fad doesn't happen without the small ball offense they used to beat the 60% cavs. Green is a product of his surroundings. He didn't Mich. ST. TO ANY championships because he didn't have super talent around him. Give Harrell his due as he accomplished more than most college bigs do, and won a championship. Don't knock the relevance of s valid comparison to another talented tween er until he gets to play in the big time
The haters here are ridiculous, it's obvious you guys have no idea how basketball works and only have very superficial knowledge. First of all, this year is one of the Morey's best draft hauls ever, I don't know if he got the BPA (for example Tyus Jones could turn out to be the next CP3, we never know), however in terms of value Morey pretty much picked guys who shouldn't be available where they are. Dekker should be lottery Harrell should be 1st round Wood should have been drafted Secondly, the actual height doesn't really matter it's all about wingspan and standing reach, having height just means you have a longer neck than other people the reality is shorter guys but with longer arms would be better since you'd have a lower center of gravity but your arms would still enable you to get the ball. In fact if you can create a basketball big man from scratch he would resemble a gorilla because you'd have him shorter but with really long arms that almost touch the ground. That's essentially the type of guy Harrell is, he's technically shorter than other big men but he makes up for it with increased athleticism, a lower center of gravity and long arms. Posters here are drawing a line between Draymond Green and the rest of the 6'7 dudes but the reality is Green is pretty much the beneficiary of playing with Iggy, Curry, Bogut and Thompson, these guys cover up his weaknesses and emphasize his strengths, take his teammates away and you're left with a guy who just averaged 12 and 8 in 35 mins....good but not exactly legendary or unique. Harrell already has a mindset and mentality that isn't different from Green, he's ready to scrap, there's no quit in him and he dives for loose balls every possession. I fail to see why he can't reach Green's level given his natural abilities and work ethic.
i have 2 questions since i've never seen harrell play….how is his passing off drives…..and can he defend wingmen on the perimeter?
Harrell is going to be a fantastic pickup IMO. Got to see him play a good bit this year and when he was on, he was a beast. He might rival DH12 from the foul line but I doubt he'll be playing meaningful minutes to evoke a hack a Montrezl game plan. Excited to see him out there (as well as Dekker).
Not enough offensive polish? He's definitely someone who relies on athleticism and a high motor, which can be very valuable qualities. It works for us, because he'll have very limited minutes in his first year, so we can afford for him to just be a high energy player. We have time to develop his offensive game in the D-League, whereas other teams don't.
I'm glad someone (else) around here doesn't have his head ensconced in his ass over this draft. This was an awesome draft. Both players we drafted were a steal, and Wood might just make the team. Now on to a rest-of-the-great-offseason. Morey has the weapons (assets) to take shots at a trade for that always-coveted star power forward, be it Aldridge or Love or whomever. Meanwhile Llull waits for the ruckus to settle and then comes in and signs for the MLE.
According to draft express, he played the bottom wing of the 2-3 zone. He also supposed to be a great pick and roll defender because he hustles hard. Think Ryan Bowen with athleticism.

He definitely has some tools to work with and has the potential to become a good all around player. Guy can actually handle the ball pretty well and has a shot that can be developed, which our coaching staff excels at. I'm excited
Apparently some here were expecting Tim Duncan's clone to be available at pick 32. From watching him at Louisville, he is a coach's dream. Strength, athleticism, and without a doubt the hardest working player on the floor. I see his ceiling being a super-role player as a change of pace big man.
