Just base on the playing style of the player and Rox, I would rather take Brooks back instead of keeping Terry. His defense won't be any better than Terry but as least he has a better chance to create some shots for himself or his teammates. If we keep Bev, both Bev and Johnson should fit the defensive assignment and both Brooks and Llull can also play some 2 positions if needed. This will be a cheap min option but should suit the Rox better than bring Terry back.
As for 3 point shooter, the option will be wide open, Morey can go for some 3 and D type (like Aminu) or just pure dead eye shooter like Marco Belinelli. I think either direction should be good.
To sum it up, if the final roster will be : PG : Llull, Bev, Brooks, Johnson SG : Harden, Brewer, Belinelli SF : Ariza, Dekker PF : Dmo, Josh, TJ, Harrell C : Dwight, Capela I will call this a very successful offseason.
Terry is the guy that keeps them together in the playoffs, he's the vocal player in the locker room. If he's brought back ( which i think we will) then he's here for this reason plus his 3Pt shot in playoffs. Not sure you wanna see brooks back here.
Most likely gone T Jones Pap Dorsey Prigs If Brewer gets some ridiculous offer I'd let him walk. Too many other wings (Dunleavy, Belinelli, Ellington, Aminu, etc.) out there that could be cheaper
Terry is NOT the guy that keep the Rockets together in the playoff. Harden and Dwight are the guys to make it happen. Terry was our starting PG in the playoff only because our other options were : 1. a rookie can not throw a stone into the ocean. 2. a grandpa who is worse than Terry. Terry did an OK job considering his condition, his age, his opponents and his expectations. But obviously, out of all the 5 positions on the floor for the Rox in the playoff, PG is the one we suffered the most. If there is option available, the Rox should go for it. Brooks at least can dribble the ball for a bit and able to penetrate and dish a bit better than Terry, while I agree he may not be a huge upgrade, he is still better imo than Terry considering the age factor.
TERRY IS (was) THE VOCAL GUY. it's not Harden, its not dwight. It's the veteran and just like the situation in Boston ( KG and Pierce) keeping the guys together. I am not talking about numbers, but rather a vocal leader ( which we all know Harden isn't a vocal guy at this point). Hopefully you get my point this time.
Hard to argue with this ... I think Terry has an inside track to stay, given is veteran leadership. That leaves one spot and with Dorsey, KPap, Prigioni, and KJ fighting over it.
I see it like this. Llull/Bev Harden/Johnson Ariza/Dekker/McDaniels D Mo/Smith/Harrell Dwight/Clint/Dorsey The remaining two spots are wildcards. One filled likely by a Jones trade (I still think he gets moved). The other being Jet or some other leadership type veteran. Maybe we cut Dorsey but the guaranteed contract makes me doubt it. Hate to say it cause he was far and away my favorite new Rocket, but I think the Dekker pick coupled with the fact that KJ should come much cheaper makes me think Morey let's Brewer walk.
