You won't live long doing hookers and blow.

Better off leaving that state for vacay.

I like desert and mountain so I would probably add New Mexico and Arizona to the list.

I'd take New Mexico too. Santa Fe or Taos, or somewhere in between.

Given the choice right now, I'd probably move back to Austin. Outside of Texas...

    1. Seattle (almost had the wife convinced last year)
    2. S. California
    3. Research Triangle area in NC. I've always loved it there.

Sorry, I have to leave the US and go to Torino, Italy. Beautiful, great city and only 1.5 hour from ski resorts in the Alps and 1.5 hour to Mediterranean beaches. Also local sports team Juventus is not bad :p

2nd choice would be Nice, France for the same reasons although it's on the coast, plus casinos.

In the US, probably SoCal for the same reasons.

Certain parts of California - I've lived in LA pretty much all my life - i have a love hate relationship with it but of late I am pretty done with the place

Orange County is a bit better but still a lot of other problems and all

San Diego is the one place I would love to live in if it was So Cal.

There are parts of northern california I would love to live in as well.

Outside of those areas in Cali:

    Texas (namely Austin)
    Oregon
    Washington
    Vermont
    New Hampshire

I wouldn't mind living in some smaller remote place like Montana actually but not long term maybe for a year or two at best.

Thread is a little vague since some answers here are based on weather while others are based on culture for each state.

For California - LA, San Diego, Orange County are all the same to me since they are all in Southern California. However each city has a different culture. The same goes for Northern California. The Bay Area has SF, East Bay, South Bay and all share the same weather but each has a different culture.

The bigger the state, the bigger range of opinions.

I enjoy living in California. If money were no object, I would move to Hawaii (Kauai) in a hot second.

This is a great call. I would also do Ruidoso, at least for part of the year.

Thumbs up for Florida Keys, whoever said that. I could spend my winters there easily. Was talking to a cousin of mine today from Vermont. New England sounds great except in the Winter.

Orange County (California....not the Beaumont area Orange County) or Fort Lauderdale or some of the areas north of Miami

What do you think about it? I have cousins outside of Missoula and have been threatening to visit for a couple of weeks sometime this summer.

Family and friends keep me where I'm at so I would stay where I am. I think a better question is "if you and your family could be from any state what would it be?"
For me, probably California, specifically San Diego area.

You know yall can move to California whenever you want. The employment prospects aren't as good as they are in Texas, but you can probably overcome and find some gainful employment. So why aren't you there yet?

Apparently, I like Houston. This is where I keep my stuff. And, I have family here, friends, kids' friends, etc. That stuff is more important than what the weather is like, how far the ocean is, or what the political persuasions of my neighbors are.

I've visited a lot of these other places, and they are nice places to visit, but don't see why I'd want to live there.

Family, job and cost of living. You know, the normal things that keep people from living in their dream locales. Did you really not understand that?
