Just thinking here about cap/trade/free agent flexibility going into the off season, if we were to potentially move Ariza on draft night or agree to a trade for him, what is the highest pick that we could get for him without including any other assets?

Since I seriously doubt anybody in the top 8 would consider Ariza without other assets, I'm going to start the poll with Charlotte at #9. Reason being they want to win now and they need a wing. Walker, MKG, Ariza on the perimeter?

I did skip through some teams that I thought would not be have interest in Ariza or that could not readily absorb Ariza without sending out major salary.

    Discuss.

I'd say 10-14. Teams that are not really horrible teams and are 1 decent player away from being good in the playoffs.

how many years do we have left for both dwight's and harden's contract? the rockets are not in a situation where they can develop young talents and wait a few years.

other than the top 3 picks, i am not willing to see ariza go. and that's not including any other assets outside of dorsey.

Ariza is here to stay unless it's another all star we are adding.

    Perfect glue guy

Wouldn't trade him for any pick in this years draft. Rockets are in win-now mode. Not win-later

Understand the "win now" proposition. And I agree. This isn't about developing another player. It's about win now.

The lower lottery teams might like him, but the weaker teams have no use for him.

Morey should retain him. He has proven his value to us.

If that's the mentality then why trade Ariza for a rookie that's never played a single NBA game.

Only way this makes sense is if its Ariza + X for Xth Pick + a veteran player that can replace Ariza.

According the cba, any, as long as the team trading the pick has not traded away a consecutive pick. This is known as the Stepian rule. Surprised you didn't know this bballholic. You're supposed to be an insider.

Does that mean we're flipping the pick? Or are you saying that whoever we pick up would contribute more than Ariza?

None. We aren't trading Ariza for a draft pick.

Huh? Why trade such a valuable starter after his first season? That's not a 'win now' move. We'd have to be miserably desperate to trade an 82-game starter for a draft pick.

To acquire an asset that is more desireable to a rebuilding team than Ariza's deal.

How about Ariza for x-pick, then x-pick pick plus #18, plus another asset for a real high pick????

Then you have a real high pick plus birds rights to Brewer plus non-guaranteed contracts of Kostas/Pablo to really put a deal together for a 3rd superstar?

Ariza is far more valuable than anyone at those picks

Unless it's for a great player in return why would you remove a team friendly contract that was awesome all season long? He showed up during the playoffs as well.

He is a building block to rely upon, there has to be another way... unless Durant decides Houston is it, than bye bye Ariza!
