At 5 million I'd still prefer Beverley over Rondo. Beverley is a good locker room presence, better shooter, arguably a better defender (doesn't have all the physical tools but Bev is more athletic than Rondo and has the drive/work ethic) I just think Rondo is a bit of a disruption to ant given team. Hopefully he snaps out of if wherever he signs and gets back on track physically and mentally. Rondo use to be such a pleasure to watch when he had his head straight
What if the Rockets re-sign Bev and Rondo willing to come here as a backup to prove that he can play without being disruptive since his stock has fallen? Rondo signs a 3mil 1 yr deal to be backup for Rockets since Smith has convinced him to do it.
Disagree...as a team FTs cost us momentum, even games this season/postseason. Now you want to add another guy who is even worse as a FT shooter? How good of a flow did the Mavericks have with Rondo? - He took a great offensive team and made them mediocre!! Sure it is a different situation with the Rockets but like Ellis, Harden likes to have the ball in his hands too. Sure it will be great if Harden can play stretches of the game without the ball in his hands, coming of screens and playing more of a catch& shoot role. But you still want Harden to initiate the offense for the majority of the game, simply because he is great at it. Rondo without the ball in his hands however is USELESS because he can't shoot. On top of that he doesn't attack the basket nearly as much as he used to in years past, because he seems to be scared of having to go to the line. Rondo is a leader?? - he sure didn't look like one during the playoffs. He actually quit on the team and the Mavericks were a better team for it, for the remaining 3 games.
It's amazing how people won't give up this Rondo nonsense. He hasn't been a good player for years now. He got benched for Raymond Felton and JJ Barea. I mean people are still taking Plowman seriously, so I suppose the Rondo talk will truly never die.
Prior to this season Rondo was demanding max money c'mon now, after 1 year he's willing to go to the bench for 3M? If he's gonna be like that why not go to Cleveland and backup Irving, with Irving injured he might actually end up starting. A lot of the Rondo scenarios here come out of left field everyone should know by now of Rondo's personality, yet by some magical influence he'll suddenly become the model team player, willing to come of the bench, play for vet minimum etc. What is the basis for this? Rondo can't even behave enough on a team with championship aspirations in A CONTRACT year, you think he'd suddenly turn 180 degrees just to prove people wrong? He can't even do it for $$$, much less what other people think of him
You would love that! Hahaha. Seriously though - no way in hell Rondo is coming here. Imagine the chemistry among Rondo/Smoove/D12/JH Omg that would be disastrous
Aside from Rondo's actual fit here on the court... There is no way he signs a deal for under 8-9 per year... Even betting on himself on a one year deal. His stock has fallen yes but not from max salary potential to minimum salary potential?
"One man's trash is another man's treasure" Who knows rondo may fit in our system. ill take a one deal rental
I like it, but you have to find a solution to hack-a-poor-FT-shooter. That solution is a good FT shooting backup PG like Bev. After reading all the nonsense on here, I think you guys have way too much respect for Carlisle. That dude's a tyrant in an equal opportunity world.
I would give Rondo a shot off the bench at 3 mil. I think that is a no-brainer. I just question his work ethic and attitude. I agree that the Rockets proved they have great culture with disgruntled players with what they did for Howard and Smith but Smith had lots of things working for him when he came over to Houston. (Detroit still paying him, playing with best friend Dwight, and he is playing a role that actually suits him without any of the pressure.) For the record. I wish fans would stop hating on Josh Smith. I went to a game and Josh Smith set up outside the arc and received a pass and shot it. The shot was completely uncontested and was probably the best look the Rockets could have gotten within the 24 seconds but some fans (younger and douchey looking) just stood up and boo'd him when he missed. The boo's resounded throughout the arena so I know it wasn't just in my section. Josh Smith is a luxury to have on this team. I also think that a player getting boo'd by their own team messes with that player's head more than anything in professional sports.
Funny how so many people talk about Rondo as if they actually know the guy. Try to find tape of the interactions between Rondo,Dwight and James before and after games that they play against each other. Should shut up the chemistry and lockerroom cancer narratives pretty quick at least for this team. I welcome a guy who's going to be vocal and hold his teammates accountable.
I remember seeing him in a playoff game recently completely disinterested and disengaged from a PLAYOFF game and his teammates....just sitting there on the floor along the baseline.....waiting for the game and his season to end. That's all I need to know about his character.
Other than Rondo's inability to shoot, he's definitely does everything well. Everybody on the team, ESPECIALLY Dwight would tremendously benefit from Rondo. But his attitude is a HUGE question mark along with his inability to hit open shots. But he'll be cheap and motivated to destroy Dallas every time we play them
Rondo is still a good player, not a great player he once was. It is his personality that will keep him away from many teams. Rondo is the BBHOLIC of the NBA. Good takes, but explosive delivery.
I read an article that basically said that Rondo is a genius and if you don't let him use his wit, he becomes a problem. If being a smart human being is his issue, I say bring him on. McHale knows how to let players play. If they are even thinking about firing McHale, I'd say no. http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/sto...-new-dallas-mavericks-point-guard-rajon-rondo
Rondo is as basketball genius. And it gets him in trouble. McHale is not the issue in bringing Rondo here. It's Hardens and Dwight's willingness to fit him in along with Rondo ' s willingness to play second fiddle to Harden when they are on the floor together that are the issues that would have to be resolved before Rondo could be brought in.
