I doubt that Peter is referred to as St. Peter in the Bible. Any reason why you would be looking for that?
Yes, I do wholehearedly support Mass.'s ability to decide on it's own. What I don't support is a court deciding for the whole country. If Mass. decides on it's own, will some liberal activist court come up with some reason to make every other state recognize the union? I'm not blowing over the state's rights thing at all. I see you didn't address the possibility of a court being very activist in this matter, probably because you know it's pretty likely. The Church generally does not get into politics much, but on certain issues, like abortion, war, etc. I guess they do feel the need to voice their opinion.
I don't use the King James version, but the bible doesn't have anybody as Saints (except Mary) He is Simon, Simon Peter, or Peter I think. But anyway, the church decided he was a Saint, not the bible.
I am always curious why Catholics attatch "Saint" to certain people in the Bible. The Bible {IMHO} is inspired and directed by God although it seems the naming of Saints was a man made additive after the fact, so I am always curious to why catholics do this since it is not written in the Bible as such. Just curious, thats all. I have had quite a few debates with my Catholic friends and I am always looking for other points of views.
For those interested in the history of the canonization of saints by the Catholic Church, here you go: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/02364b.htm
Yes I meant the Catholic Church... Most Saints weren't in the bible... take for instance, St. Francis, or the soon to be Mother Theresa...
cute but you know that your example isn't love but lust or gluttony or greed. i'm asking you is non-platonic love between a man and a woman automatically better or stronger than love between 2 men or 2 women? and if so why? do you even think gays are capable of loving each other or do you think our relationships are purely sexual?
Originally posted by right1 Timing, do homosexuals have the priviledge of producing a baby? Can two men, based on their sexuality, get each other pregnant? Can two women have sex and produce a baby who shares their genetic make-up? Nope. Try it if you wish. Does this make mother nature discriminatory? You say it's all about discrimination and equality. I guess creation, or mother nature, is just anti-gay. Is this the case? If so, CASE CLOSED!!! There's nothing I or anyone else can do about it. Sorry. Can I be accepting of homosexuals? Yes. Would I vote to uphold civil and human rights for gays & lesbians? YES. Would I vote to make same-sex marriage legal? No. Would I vote to allow homosexuals to procreate? It seems Mother Nature has already made her decision. [/QUOTE] I know I'm late on this but since when was producing a baby a right/priviledge given by the government and what does it have to do with marriage? You gotta be kidding me with this mother nature stuff.
Outlaw, I have to say yes... What I cite is the Pope's Theology of the Body. Its really lengthy to explain, and you probably wouldn't agree with it, but thats how I feel.
Scary stuff. It frightens me that people can actually believe that. I think it´s sort of like freedom of belief. When it is used like: "I don´t believe in freedom of belief. It´s my constitutional right."
This from the Red Swede who believes workers of the world will untie and take over. Man, can it. I'm Catholic. I have an allegiance to the Pope as head of my church. 2000 years of theologians sitting around and praying and thinking about these topics, I'm interested in what they say and I believe that it is right. The Pope's theology of the body might be one of the most awesome things I've read....That said, its a 800 page book, and if you really want me to explain it then I will, but, you could just as easily get off your duff and read it yourself. Go swim in a fjord or something. J/k
Hey legendary21, why don't you start a generic thread on how life is really like for the typical Swede. I don't think many of us have actually been there. I'm curious. Is it like Gemany where I've been? I saw virtually no poverty in the parts I was at.
