Oh wow missed this when I asked when they had to pick it up by. If they did pick it up early, it must mean a trade is coming soon. Morey wouldn't give up flexibility like that unless he intended to do something.
It doesn't make sense NOT to pick it up. This doesn't mean something is ABSOLUTELY going to happen. Morey can be patient and wait til something he likes comes along.
Definitely good insurance to have if the Rockets can't keep Brewer. I think he will improve next year. Really loved his hustle just need to hit the the ball consistently and stop trying to make the home run play. Definitely valuable if the Rockets want to trade him as well. Win/win for me.
Good decision. Curious as to why Morey did it so early. Usually he waits til the last minute to do that kinda stuff. Makes you wonder if he is already on the phones..
Exactly... Brewer is not a lock to sign. We can dump Papa if we get brewer and Mcdaniels under contract but if we don't Papa still has some value. Overpaid for sure but he could improve a bit this season and it's not like we can use his money in anything more than a trade. So I say keep him until you know he is not needed or until he is needed in a trade. Smart move and somewhat predictable but good news. Thanks cyberx
Papa was so great early on but injuries stifled his development. Lowry seems like a logical target with get ability, talent and salary combined. You hearing his name?
cyberx, thanks for the heads-up on this actually happening. Most of the posters are trivializing the news based on something I wrote in my last cap update: http://rockets.clutchfans.net/8859/houston-rockets-salary-cap-update-2015-offseason/ The relevant passage:
