Guys, Matuella is not a possibility. We are going to have to go underslot pretty much the rest of the way.
crap. just realized astros down 3 to 1 in the 6th. But I'm loving the draft so far! stoked! Would be even sweet if the "Astros pulled off the win
I feel like he Kobe'd his way to us. Great draft so far. I've been hard on Luhnow because of the perceived failure in Aiken while passing on Rodon and I'd still prefer Rodon to Bregman, but I'm willing to eat some crow.
Would like to see Jacob Lemoine, RHP, U of H with our 2cd or 3rd round pick. One of my friends..has struggled this year but was seen as a first rounder coming into the year. Would be cool to see him stay local.
Cameron was at one point the #1 prospect in the draft. Tucker was rising fast, and has been compared to an all time great Ted Williams. Bregman is supposed to have a higher ceiling than Swanson if things work out. Talk about a great draft in a supposed weak year....
[rQUOTEr]37. Houston selects: Daz Cameron, OF, Eagles Landing HS (McDonough, Ga.) Rank in Keith Law's Top 100: 12 We finally find out how the Astros are going to throw their financial weight around in this draft with their selection of Cameron, whose asking price is rumored to be north of $6 million. Cameron has been on the radar for years, competing with older kids as an underclassman and showing advanced feel for all facets of the game. He's a top-10 talent, and if the Astros can sign him, he'd be a huge get for them all they way back at 37.[/rQUOTEr]
I don't know his spondylolysis and TJ surgery could be scaring teams away. Luhnow sounded really ecstatic this morning on twitter....
Amazing draft.... Bregman + Cameron is pretty sweet return for Aiken + Nix.... I wont include Marshall, because there was not enough money to sign him if Aiken did not agree to less. If Aiken was healthy, he was the superior talent. But he had the UCL issue. So i prefer Bregman + Cameron. Astos did good.
Let's go after a college reliever/closer who could help down the stretch this year. Should be able to get one for $1M and save 300k
I think Matuella goes before us. Remember that all the top teams before us have money because their 1st rounders are likely all underslot guys. I would not be surprised he goes very quickly. But if for whatever reason he does drop, say the Astros have $5.5 to Bregman, $4.5 to Tucker and Daz, they can add another $2-3mil for Matuella and just go with $5000 college seniors the rest of the way. My numbers may be optimistic though. More likely they're already fairly up to their salary pool with just these 3 guys.
