I haven't done research, so I'll just say "good pick." I do know enough to know that Bregman's been a solid performer for three seasons.
It's almost impossible to judge this pick until we see what we do with the other picks. Don't love Bregman, seems like a low upside guy. But I said the same thing about a defensive lineman from Wisconsin a few years ago.
This isn't NfL or NbA, it's not about need. These guys are longer term, just hope they turn out to be great picks and worry about position later...or trade for need
[rquoter]Houston selects: Alex Bregman, SS, LSU Rank in Keith Law's Top 100: 4 Houston has had all hands on deck for this draft since February, when scouts and executives were hustling around the country to get a look at everyone they could, as early as they could. Here they grab Bregman, who uses his lower half to make hard contact to all fields. He projects to rip out a dozen or so homers annually to his pull side while getting on base a ton. He is unlikely to stick at shortstop, but his bat will still be an impact bat if he moves to second. He has done everything he can to convince scouts he can stick at short and has convinced some doubters this year. Houston picks again at No. 5, and that pick will give us a better feel for the way they're going to move their bonus pool, the biggest in the league this year, around the rest of their draft.[/rquoter]
