So in the DSL this morning, the Astros' Blue team beat the Royals 9-5, and the losing pitcher was named Samuel Adames.
Chris Devenski vs. Northwest Arkansas: 5 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 7 K Michael Feliz is in for the Hooks now. It's tied at 1 in the 6th inning.
Here's a Carlos Correa single from tonight. A Crawfish Boxes member is in Colorado Springs tonight to watch the Grizzlies. <blockquote class="twitter-video" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Correa lines a single through the right side to open the sixth inning. <a href="http://t.co/iJ0oLeT5V2">pic.twitter.com/iJ0oLeT5V2</a></p>— The Crawfish Boxes (@CrawfishBoxes) <a href="https://twitter.com/CrawfishBoxes/status/606655831262633984">June 5, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
In Lancaster, A.J. Reed just smacked his 15th homer of the year. That figure leads the California League.
The Hooks will be wearing these tonight: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Comic Christi Night and a chance to win Lance McCullers' game-worn batman cleats is tomorrow! <a href="http://t.co/fYg9WsFrpc">http://t.co/fYg9WsFrpc</a> <a href="http://t.co/PxlIDdTfog">pic.twitter.com/PxlIDdTfog</a></p>— Corpus Christi Hooks (@cchooks) <a href="https://twitter.com/cchooks/status/606667534755102720">June 5, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Reed still is a bit behind Big Jon in my book. AJ is only a year younger and still has yet to progress beyond High A. Singleton has raked at AA and AAA and has 13 big league bombs. With that being said Reed is putting up big time numbers (although Singleton did carry a 917 OPS figure during his time in Lancaster and as a 19 year old).
Yeah, I think that Reed might make Singleton expendable. Even though Reed is not ready to be called up yet, Carter is holding down the fort; yes, his BA appears laughable on the surface, but he makes up for it with his .310 On base percentage and his HR stroke. So, if there is a trade for a quality starting pitcher, I think Singleton will be included in a package. Singleton may not have the value he had before getting suspended for the mar1juana problem. But Singleton still has a lot of value, as he has proven he is more than capable of hitting AAA pitching. I am surprised that neither Singleton or Dominguez have gotten the nod to come on over to the Astros this season. Even when Hoes got called up, it was for 1 game. Hence, I think that the Astros are exploring all of their option of maximizing the value of their minor league talent. Frankly, the Astros don't have the patience to give Singleton, Dominguez, Hoes, etc. 3 years of PA hoping they become regulars. Plus we've already experienced the Robbie Grossman, Brett Wallace, Krause, etc. trains.... Good AAA hitters, but floundering ML hitters.
I don't really know what thread to put this in, but Morgan Ensberg is making a fool of himself on twitter right now. I love his passion for our team, but he just said he wouldn't trade any of Phillips, Santana, or Tucker for Hamels straight up.
What do you want him to say when asked about Astros minor leaguers? They suck and aren't good enough in trades? He probably shouldn't have responded.
It's not outlandish to think that any of the three provide more surplus value than Hamels purely on the basis that he's got nearly $70m plus a likely-to-be-exercised-if-traded $24m option. I personally wouldn't do that trade either. It's a high risk/high reward move to trade a high upside, dirt cheap prospect for a high upside, high salary player. Luhnow hasn't thus far shown any interest in making such a high risk move. I bet that trade has multiple players going both ways and a decent chunk of salary if it happens.
Except salaries are rising big time, won't get a true ace in free agency for anywhere near Hamels salary Guess it depends if you want to go for it, or just hope you are good enough to get some breaks and win it without another ace I'd move those guys in a heartbeat, we have more depth of those kind of guys that we can use
I'd much rather send both and wack $25-$30m off the top and maybe send another player or two each way. But yeah I'd trade Santana for Hamels straight up right now.
Went to see Fresno play tonight in CO Springs. I was excited to see Carlos C, but he hit into a double-play in the first inning and then game called in the rain for his next at bat. Alex White had terrible control tonight. It was weird seeing so many big league guys on our AAA roster.
