I just bought a brand new car. First time ever. I want to take precautions with the vehicle's finish. Do you guys prefer hand wash or automatic? Are there any pros and cons to both? Do you have any recommendations for good places to get a car wash and detailing in the cypress/Jersey Village area.

If you care about your car, hand wash. I would rather leave my car dirty than send it through those automatic car wash places.

hand wash in a place with high pressure spray is also bad on paint though. Hand wash at home with soft water.

Hand wash. To truly protect the paint you should have it waxed and sealed. Have protectant on the black trim to keep from fading from the sun.

Hand wash, and in a year or two when you don't care about it anymore, switch to automatic wash... ;)

Hand wash is always the best. If you have to go automatic, use one without any brushes that touch the car.

And never ever ever use one of those filthy ass brushes at a wand car wash. Might as well wash it with a belt sander if you're going to do that.

Hand wash is best, especially if you use the two-bucket method. But if you're short on time and need a quick wash, take your car to a TOUCHLESS automatic car wash.

Also, I suggest getting your car waxed 2 to 4 times a year.

Use to handwash but I have been so lazy I use a automatic wash now. Hand washing a truck is too much work.

I just think it comes with age. I drive a nicer car now than I did when I wasn't lazy and used to hand wash every two weeks. I currently have an unlimited wash pass from mister carwash and go there about 3-4 times a week. Especially in the summer, its real nice having my car look clean all the time. Fwiw, even if you just go twice a month you'll get your money's worth.

I agree with the old age comment. Just don't really want to waste 2 hours to wash my car when I can just spend 5 mins through a car wash. How much is the mister carwash per month?

I opted for the $32 one but will probably downgrade come fall. Its a standalone $16 wash.

    Express Platinum
    Exterior Wash
    T3 Conditioner
    Wheel Cleaner
    Repel Shield
    Underbody Wash
    Tire Shine
    HotShine Carnauba Shield

It depends. If you're going to have this car for the next ten years, or the next 2-4yrs. If it's long term and it will become some sort of heirloom, then a hand wash is definitely the way to go, but if it's short term I would use automatic! You can always have the car waxed and detailed when you are going to resell the vehicle. I don't buy "NEW" vehicles nor do I keep them very long, so that should tell you what I do.

My cars only get hand washed when I take them to fund raising events, either for my church or for my kids school athletic programs.

Y'all are crazy. You don't hand wash your own car, you pay someone to hand wash it. It doesn't take 2 hours, it takes 20 minutes.

If it's a car you like you go with the hand wash. Inside the loop you get to drink a coffee, chill in a leather seat and look at t*** for 20 minutes while 6 people hand wash your car for $8.99. Suckers.

If your car has carbon fiber, hand wash it.

I normally go through the machines with that unlimited pass from Mister Car Wash but my new car has CF on it so I can't do that anymore. They charge $40 for hand wash there but I haven't given it a shot yet.

Black on Black Suburban... Stuff gets dirty quick so I wash it after every Rain shower or 2-3 / week.

That is where Mr. Carwash comes in handy. something like 30 bucks a month w/ unlimited washes.

    I can't imagine paying $8.99 x 3 days x 4 weeks. = $100+

My Ride is super clean and people always ask if I get it hand washed lol.. nope it's just Mr. Carwash.

I used to always go to Bubbles on Westheimer for the hand wash. Didn't mind when Mister bought them out, but now I'm pissed they fully converted it to automatic. The old Bubbles location on Kirby that's now a Mister is still done by hand. Go there.

Ziggy, what place are you talking about? I tried Soap and it was meh.

Even then it might still swirl up your car. You don't know what kind of sponge/rags they use or if they use the 2 bucket method. Hell they probably use the same soap they have been using for their last few washes.
