Any reason why we wouldn't take Ian Happ at 5? He's only a year older than Rodgers but hit .366 in a competitive conference with no protection in the lineup, won 2 Cape Cod MVP's and has played infield and outfield at Cinci. I've heard power being an issue (Colin Moran part 2, etc etc) but he hit 14 HR and is young enough to develop more power. Could be a nice guy to get way underslot at 5.
Interestingly, I think Mike Cameron is very much in the mold of this current Astros team -- plus power, plus speed, plus defense, but low BA/high strikeout. I remember him being used as a comp for George Springer, which doesn't seem to be that far off. He had a decade long stretch as a 20/20 guy with plus defense.

I think Correa is better suited for 3rd if it comes to it, but I think both guys are capable of playing SS and 3B. Really would love Swanson, don't think he's gonna fall to us. Hopefully Arizona tries to get creative.
Stros and Ground Control and Major Jeff would get roasted for it, but I think it's an interesting thought to draft 2 guys you like enough, offer them the minimum+ for their slots at 2/5, and if they don't sign who cares, you have 1 or 2 picks in the top <10 next year in a MUCH stronger draft.
What does it all really matter if the draft is a crap shoot anyways? (commonly held company line when the picks don't work out) And even with more deferred picks, I doubt they finish with a worse record than they did last year... which would mean an overall lower slot pool regardless.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there will be no compensation next year if we do not sign the 2nd overall pick.
I'm having trouble getting on board with the idea of taking two bats with our two Top 5 picks. It seems like it would be a great opportunity to add a solid pitching prospect or two to our system. Our farm system seems to be littered with bats that have high potential to make it in the league. I'm not sure you can say that about the pitching in our system. Not to mention we failed to sign two of the better P prospects in last years draft. I just don't understand why they wouldn't look at pitching with one of their top 5 picks.
Cubs have given the blueprint on how to draft to the rest of the league. Draft elite bats, sign and trade for good arms.
