Harden to Morey: Lowry was interested in us and you chased Melo instead.

I'm not going to go so far as to say that the Rockets would have won the series with Lin but I will say he would have been an upgrade over Terry & Prigioni in the playmaking department.
Lin is just such a polarizing player because of the expectations , salary & the cost to move him & that poison pill contract out the door. His play at the end of Game 6 Vs Portland didn't make him any friends either.

I think he could help this team as a playmaker when Harden sits ... He wouldn't be my first or probably even 4th option but you could do worse. The FA pool PG pool doesn't offer much in the way of talent much less affordable talent. There is Dragic at the top then a couple restricted FA's then Lin and Barea .... after that its back end of the roster guys who you hope never see the court.
I wouldn't offer Lin or Barea more than a salary equal to the BAE (which the Rockets don't have) or slightly less than half the MLE but giving a guy half the MLE when that is the only exception you have stops you from adding a full MLE talent ....

I'm beginning to think the best course of action is to draft a point guard and try to find a solid veteran combo guard via that MLE - Assuming Smith will stick around for the ~$2.49m the Rockets can offer without the use of an exception.
Ideally I'd like Courtney Lee but he's under contract .... Maybe one of Danny Green , Iman Shumpert , Jamal Crawford , Marco Belinelli as a shooter off the bench while drafting one of Cameron Payne or Jerian Grant & matching PatBev. Then move out some combination of KPap , TJones , Dorsey & Prigioni for a veteran big man to a team looking for cap relief. (Moving Jones means you are confident DMo returns healthy).

    Dwight / Capela
    DMo / Smith
    Ariza / Brewer
    Harden / FA / Terry / McDaniels
    PatBev / Rookie / Johnson
Plus a veteran big via trade & a second round pick.

Lol!! Who the hell said anything about Lin? He's the last player I would want running this team. Crazy how the LOFs can derail a thread

    It's more than that.

Lin does not look good when he's prevented from making plays, there's no doubt about it. However, when he's allowed to do it as a starter with Harden, the Rockets look DAMN GOOD, even overwhelming. The stretch in late December 2012 / early January 2013, when we were easily scoring 120+ points a game and dominating some of the best teams in the league, proves it.

That is what we threw away by strangling Lin's game. If Lin and Harden had continued to share the playmaking duties, we and not the Dubs or the Cavs would have been the best team in the NBA this year.

Unfortunately, we chose to glorify Harden at Lin's expense -- and, as it turns out, at the team's expense. Thus proving Churchill's statement about how most people handle opportunity.

Lin could barely play for one of the worst teams in the league. Got benched for a rookie and journeyman PG. Prigioni is better than him.

Lin is horrible. Don't want his loser mentality rubbing off on the team.

    Someone is pushing Lin. Seriously?
We're not Rockets fans because we don't want him ?

Must be related to his agent. lol. Couldn't even play for the Lakers.

There are two extremes and most of these posts are on one of those sides. If Lin is available for around the vet min or slightly above, I'd definitely take him. He's a good chemistry guy and can playmake/score a little. Lack of confidence and inconsistency have always been his biggest flaws.

What ever guard set a career high against should be on the team.

Jack and Lin have almost identical stats except that Lin shot over 10% better from the three point line last year. Lin is not the guy, but Jack isn't any better (and probably worse with his age and decline over the past couple years).

I dont think Lin would be a bad backup. Averaged 11 and 4 while shooting 37% from 3.

Can still run the pnr pretty well and hustles on defense.

There's baggage, but so what? If he's cheap, dossnt matter. Josh Smith had baggage.

My first choice tho is Deron Williams. And if we can offer Brandon Knight a poison pill contract or get him in a trade.

honestly as someone who likes lin sometimes the arguments ppl put up about him can be so dumb (for or against). its really better for everyone's sake to just ignore those type of posts. kinda like ignoring the people who insist on pushing their religion onto you.

The difference is the baggage when it comes to Lin is baggage on this forum, not the team itself.

It looks like the Spurs will have no choice but to renounce corey joseph because his cap hold is 5 mil. That will make him a ufa. I think he is a feasible and cheap target.
