another wave of storms coming through texas right now. it may make it to houston in time for rush hour or so...
This is just insane. I have had 2" of rain the past hour or so. And looks like a lot more to come. Good night to stay home
RIP both SRV and BB. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/p3KTjeqltuQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
An outstanding addition to this discussion, Judo. Like I said in the sad thread about losing the great Mr. King, I saw him many times, mostly in clubs in Houston and Austin ages ago, before he became sort of a "living icon" on a pedestal, something BB couldn't have cared less about, in my opinion. Saw BB far more than Stevie Ray, cut down before his time and his prime, much like Jimi. However, I digress. Lake Travis is now less that 5 feet below the historical normal level for this time of year. In other words, Travis is full, people. Water is still coming in, and I don't doubt that it'll reach 670' above sea level, where it should be. Once the debris clears out a bit, give it a week, maybe two, according to the Travis County lake patrol I listened to yesterday, it's full speed ahead for summer fun at last! They said the lake is good for boating now, just to go slow and be careful. Most of the boat ramps should be open, maybe all of them. A quote from one of lake patrol guys, "It looks beautiful! Just take it easy for a week, at least." I'm been waiting what seems like forever for the worm to turn. When we moved here permanently in 1980, wet Springs and normal lake levels were the norm, for years, and had been for a long time. If the lake went down due to lack of rain, it didn't last, not like we've seen seemingly forever. Getting there has been terrible for a lot of people, and that's happened before. This is the "silver lining" to that tragedy and misery so many are going through now.
35.88 feet in 1 month http://www.golaketravis.com/waterlevel/ Over a foot a day rise for a lake that is 60 miles long!
Man so good to hear, haven't had a chance to get down to the lake yet... But definitely looking forward to Travis summer, not a big fan of lake Austin boating... Anyway, while I love the rain filling the lake definitely wish it didn't come at the expense of people and their property I was in Houston over memorial weekend and that flooding was bad, and then the stuff I saw on the news about San Marcos/Wimberly area is pretty devastating. I mean some people don't realize how strong flooding can be, obviously some times if your stuck in a bad situation might not have as good of luck, but if you're driving and are pretty sure it's deep don't risk it (I know most realize this, but just saying). Anyway I hope everyone stays safe out there, and this rain starts to come in at a regular rate and not all at once PS I am envious of you guys that got to see SRV/BB in concert!!
i wonder what the wind speed got to because the neighborhood had a few very large limbs down, one of which was a 30 ft, 12inch diameter that fell from my tree Luckily is only grazed a portion of the roof and there is minimal damage.
