Okay, I'm that sure this is also an annual tradition, so I'll get it out of the way. I live in New York, watch the Rockets games at my local sports bar. (Ship of Fools, 82nd st and 2nd Ave). Is there some other sports bar that has a strong Rockets contingent? It would be fun to watch the Rox with other fans. As it is, I just get some weird looks when I where the pj unis. (sorry for the clutter of an additional thread, btw, but I was worried that if I posted in the Austin thread, no one living in NYC would read it. thanks!)
we've tried in the past, a couple of us met up at Blondie's on the East Side near you. it gets damn expensive though every other night . someone needs to order league pass and others just chip in.
i had league past last year, tho not sure if i'll spring for it again. i'm on the west side- if we had 4-5 people we could alternate apartments. btw, check out pig heaven at 80 and 2nd. buddy of mine plays a mean guitar there friday and saturday nights. great food too- best pork butt in town...
me three....but i don't hit the upper east or west side much...downtown kinda person. hell, to see some good rockets games i'd be into getting something together. i'm losing my digital cable when i move in october... i'm going to have to find a place. anyone in williamsburg, les, or east village area wanna hit a sports bar?
oh hell yeah! i will be in classes, but i will have league pass, and everyone is welcome to ma place in clinton hill brooklyn! also, i will definately be going to the rockets/knicks game, IN MY OLAJOWAN JERSEY!!! please e-mail me!
Why are you guys even rockets fans if you are from New York? Does your knicks really suck that bad so you have to jump to our team? Were any of you even born in Houston?
Aren't they the New York Rockets? Les went out of his way to hire people associated with that other New York franchise...
first of all, no one needs to prove themselves to you. This is a website for Rockets fans, first and foremost . do you ask the same question to the other BBS posters from all around the WORLD? did anyone ever consider that New York is the media capital of the world and that not all residents of New York are actually from there? assumptions like these make me wonder the intelligence of certain posters
Glad to see Rockets fans grow beyond the limits of houston and texas really. it makes the team so much better than it may put out to be and itll help us win championships
I just moved to NYC from Houston 3 months ago. I live in Flushing but I work in Long Island. I didn't notice any other Queens posters on this thread yet. Unfortunately my job requires long hours so I'll be TiVo'ing the games off league pass so I can watch them when I get home after work.
Hey. Careful with those assumptions. I grew up in Houston. I followed the Rockets when I was in still my mother's womb. (The 'ol red and mustard color scheme looks really good in a fetus, by the way). Back in the regular season of '93 (before the title), as a high school student, I used to work at Kroger until 1 am each night. Every night I would tape the game and watch it when I got home, staying up until 3 in the morning before school. And then came '94, still lived in Houston, hated the Knicks with a passion. And I still do. The great thing about these new fangled "airplanes" is that they let you travel, maybe even move and relocate. Now I live in New York. But does that mean I abandoned ship and joined the enemy? No. I walk the streets of Manhattan with my PJ unis. I'm proud to do it. At a Rockets/Knicks game in MSG, I nearly got in a brawl for taunting all the home Knicks fans. It was fun. You can take the man out of Houston, but you can't take the Houston out of the man. I envy Rockets fans that live in Houston. I really do. They get to watch Calvin and Bill call every game on the local telecast. Don't take this for granted! Me, I can only do that a couple of weeks a year when I visit Houston. But I'm still thirsty for the games, so I spend far more money than I should at sports bars where I can see a telecast. So. I don't need to prove myself, or my Houston roots, or my Rockets loyalty. Let's say, though, hypothetically, that I was a Rockets fan that grew up in New York. So what? I would still be a Rockets fan. And in fact, I think many out of towners would agree with me when I say that it takes MORE work to follow the team when you don't have the luxury of 610, constant local news coverage, the option to go to the games, etc. Anyone posting on this site, unless they have way, way, way too much time on their hands, is a Rockets fan. Of course we all have differences in opinion on whether we should trade Mobley, match Memphis, or start Boki. But these are lively discussions amongst fellow fans. We're all Rockets fans. We all bleed Rocket . . . um . . . red and silver. We're all one. "Can't we all just get along?" Oh, and by the way----the single best way to stay informed as an out of town Rockets fan: this very site. That's why I'm here. Every day I thank God for Clutch and crew; I'm kicking myself for not finding the site sooner. Peace!
brilliant, rasselas, couldn't have summed it up better. look for me on the streets with my throwback gear on. go rockets I LOVE NEW YORK!
Thanks for the reply Rasselas. Yours was actually the only intelligent reply. across110, your a jackass and I never said you had to prove yourself to me. When I post on this board I type what is on my mind without the intention to piss people off, and it seems like here lately the clutch bbs is full of people wanting to flame. The thing that made me write a reply is I seen Kam come in here and type He lives in Houston and likes it, and you tell him no one cares and go away! What the hell is that? How about you go away sh#thead!
