I couldn't help thinking when they started hacking Josh Smith why the didn't have bring the ball up. When the hacked him, he could of shot it from wherever he was on the court on possibly get 3 free throws. Much better chance hitting 1 of 3 than 1 of 2.
It only matters if the shot goes in. If he makes the shot and the foul occurred after the shooter STARTED his shooting motion, then the basket would count and you'd have a loose ball foul, so Smith/Dwight would then shoot free throws. I believe it happened once last playoffs if I recall correctly, but it's rare, since normally it doesn't go in and even if it does, they review it and normally determine the shooter hadn't started the shot, which is a huge inconsistency with how continuation is called.
This response gain It's obviously not that simple for these guys for whatever reason. And it 'aint practice because these guys have taken millions of FTs in their careers.
It's all mental and focus man. Dwight hits them in practice and Josh use to be a decent freethrow shooter.
Wait. What if Josh or Dwight kept jumping up and down and the moment they get hacked they fall to the ground hard and draw a flagrant? I mean, the refs can't say they were going for the ball.
How to beat hack-a__ ... Give the person being hacked the ball. The other 4 plays hold hands and closely surround ball handler. Escort ball handler to the goal for the windmill dunk.
I'm still for trying this: Shoot to make the first FT. If you make it shoot for the second one; if not, throw the BB hard at the backboard and let the guys lined up on the lane have a change at getting the rebound. Now, you've got a scramble situation with a chance for a put-back and/or a foul. Crazy, I know. But better than 2 misses.
Rofl this would be embarrassing.. Doesn't it have to hit rim though? Or is that only in order for the shooter to rebound the ball?
Just that stupid. Why is it not ever said regarding the Hack-ing team "just play defense instead of cheating and being whistled by the referee for an illegal play" Why don't morons like you and Skip Bayless and all the other idiots say this instead? Confounds me. Oh wait, no it don't.
When I played YMCA ball as a kid we have a very talk guy on our team. Our coach would make us pass him the ball and he would hold it high about our head. Then me and 3 other guys would run around him in circles. They didn't know how to defend us. Eventually a lane would open and one of us would break from the circle of guys running around him and he would pass it for a open layup to this day it was the most r****ded thing I have ever done basketball related
Other than just hitting your FTs, I actually like that idea. Have whoever is being hacked throw up the ball for a possible 3 attempts.
You are correct. Response #8 here quotes the rule. (A fairly thorough discussion by the way.) I'd still like to see a hard intentional miss a time or two just for the fun and change of pace. The other team would wonder if you're THAT crazy or desperate, when might you try it again.
I couldn't help laughing to myself picturing a player like Howard rearing back like he was going to throw it hard at the basket only to stop and toss it like regular FT. If he had done it before like I mentioned in my last post, imagine the lane violations you could create off of it. Seriously, this is a tongue-in-cheek thread to begin with. Absurdity is invited by ways to thwart the hack-a-whomever, which, though legal, is pretty absurd in its actual implementation in the game. Just about everyone hates it even though it's legal.
