When you look for a president what are the factors that
attract you to them . .. turn you away?

I think we all can understand THEIR POLITCS
if they match your own. But beyond that.

Does their Religious Background play a part for you?
    How they look?
    How well they speak?
Their Family situation? [Would have a problem with a Bachelor Pres?]
would race and gender be an issue for you?

What do you look for in a president?

    Cute smile.

    Sense of humor.

    Great butt!

Actually, I don't think how they look bears much for me. I mean, I voted for Bob freaking Dole.

Race and gender are absolutely unimportant to me. I would heartily welcome a black woman president who shared my viewpoints.

Integrity would probably be my number one concern. Are you true to your word? Not inflexible...but some core character that makes the person a leader.

The only issue in choosing a President for me is what the candidate's position is on issues that mean alot to me:

    1. The economy
    2. Personal liberty and freedom
    3. Foreign policy

A candidate's gender, race and religion mean nothing to me. A candidate's family situation means nothing to me, and a bachelor president would be just fine to me. How well they speak means a little more to me. I cannot support a candidate who comes off sounding like a dumbass to me.

    What about religion?
I think alot of folx will back off Leiberman
I think Alot of folx will have concerns about
whether it will tie us more to Isreal

[I think the Kennedy's had people saying that
the pope would be running the US if they were elected]

I think the Ties a person has mean alot
I they are in big business' pocket
    That bothers me

religion isn't a clincher for me...i think faith is a good thing in a leader...particularly in a nation where roughly 90% of the people believe in God in some form or fashion.

bill clinton espoused faith in God...i think he was sincere...i didn't vote for him the second time.

I would love to say that honesty was one of the criteria, but I have long since resigned myself to the fact that lies, half-truths, and spin are things that politicians (nearly all politicians it seems) do.

I don't take into account race, religion, gender, or appearance. Those are surface issues that come into play in very little for me.

I agree that speaking ability is important as the President is supposed to be a statesman and certainly should know what s/he is talking about. I also have to have the perception that the person is somewhat intelligent, which I think is important for a statesman.

Background and family are somewhat important to me in that knowing about one's background can kind of give you insight into what they might do about certain issues. That being said, someone's background can also be misleading about issues (ex. our current President's "youthful indiscretions" and his subsequent escalation of the war on drugs).

Other than positions on issues, I think that is just about it. I will think about it some more and add if appropriate.
