Well, you thought wrong. I ain't Chinese. I'm German/Irish American born and bred. My wife is though. She's keeps me up to date on what Yao's been up to from the Chinese websites. I don't speak a lick of Chinese.

High school? Hardly!! More like as recent as when Livingston and JKidd were playing together on the Phoenix Suns. I remember JKidd broke his ankle and Livingston filled in admirably.

Randy Livingston as long as he has been playing in the NBA was never considered as good as Jason Kidd.

    Career stats - 4.1 points a game, 1.8 assists

he's never had a good year, the most points he's ever scored in a season is 381

Yeah, thanks to his injuries. The same could be said about Sabonis. If Sabonis came to the NBA when before his legs went out, he's be among the top NBA players of all time.

when exactly did Livingston get hurt???

he was drafted 42nd in the 96 draft by the rockets. Never amounted to anything. So, was he hurt before his NBA Career?

Actually, I checked up on Livingston so that I could argue with this joker, and apparently Randy was quite the stud in high school. He went to LSU and averaged 16ppg and 12 rpg in his first 16 games of his freshman year and then injured both of his knees. He was never the same after that.

So apparently in high school he and Kidd could have been comparable. Though I still don't know what that has to do with RL being on this team of scrubs...

You'd think Team USA would know better than to send Olden Polynice to lay down the law.

    :D

I'll be here all day folks.

Yao is being reported to weigh around 320-330 lbs now. The USA coach commented he's too fat and lost his agility. I guess that inspired Yao, as he had a monster game after that. Bob Hill is hoping to land a coaching position in China.

Randy Livingston had a shot at being something special, but injuries heavily affected him. But the U.S. team consisted of guys that probably couldn't make most NBA teams this year. I would've liked to have seen Yao put up numbers like 35/20, but he was probably double/tripled teamed and I'm sure his minutes were cut down a bit.

Yeah, he was getting swarmed like Dream used to. I got to watch the game online, and it reminded me of the second Minnesota game (after we blew em out) where Yao was rushed the second he touched the ball. I remember Cat saying that he didn't see double and triple teams like that since Dream.

These two articles are from asia-basket.com

    by Arthur Volbert (07/29)

China won its fourth game in a row against a touring American all-star squad, 89-86. Pictures show Bateer Mengke Mengke Bateer (210-C-75) now playing with the National Team as well as Yao Ming.

The National Team has one more game scheduled against the Americans. It also has four games scheduled against the Melbourne Tigers, a top Australian professional team.

The American squad is similar in certain respects to the "Legends" squads that used to tour China. Clyde Drexler toured as a member of the 2000 "Legends" team after he had retired from the NBA. Rick Barry was the coach of the that team. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Moses Malone played with the Legends in 1998.

But by 2000, several young players were included on the team along with the retired NBA stars. The Chinese had progressed enough in their basketball skills so that players nearing 50 could no longer give them a contest. But the team still included some players who had recently retired. This team could still beat the Chinese, and the 2000 version of the Legends won two games out of three.

The current team includes players who are no longer in the NBA but who are still trying to extend their careers in the minor leagues or overseas. All but two of the players are under 30, whereas most of the players on the Legends teams were over 30. The current team is far stronger than any of the Legends teams which won games from those earlier Chinese National Teams.

Nevertheless the Chinese have now won four games in a row. This bodes well for China in the Asian Championships in September, for I do not believe any other national team in Asia could win a series from this American team.

China swept its series with the touring American Star team five games to none, beating the Americans in the last contest today 94-85.

China jumped out to a 77-51 lead, completely dominating the American team. But then China lost concentration, not realizing that American teams will still play hard even when they are down by 26 points. This is especially true when the American team does not want to suffer the embarrassment of being swept by the Chinese. The Americans went on a 32-7 spurt and reduced the margin to one point, 84-83. But instead of completely folding as China has done so many times in the past -- in the 2000 Olympics against France, in the 2002 World Championships against New Zealand, or in the 2002 Asian Games against South Korea -- China regrouped.

China went on an 10-2 run of its own to close out the game and emerge with an nine point victory, its largest margin of the series.

One impressive picture of the game showed Fangyu Zhu Zhu Fangyu (200-F-83) scoring on a two-handed dunk. When Zhu scored 14 points against the Americans at the World Championships, I noted that while he drove to the basket he did not utilize his dunking ability. Zhu's dunk is further indication that the National Team is starting to play basketball like the rest of the world.

The National Team will next play four games against the Melbourne Tigers, an Australian professional team, on August 6, 8, 10 and 12.

In this Chinese interview, Yao admited that he gained 7 or 8 kg, i.e. 17lbs, since he went back to China.

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2003-08-01/1822524721.shtml

He blamed it on Chinese Chinese food. He didnt think American Chinese food were actually Chinese food, which I agree. If you want really delicious Chinese food, you got to go to China or toronto. Anyway, since he blamed it on the food, I guess most of the 17lbs are fat instead of muscle. He said he was trying to reduce some of the weight he gained. And Chinese fans are much more annoying (or crazy?) than their American counterpart.
