This year there have been highs and lows.

Some of the highs were higher than what we've experienced recently, like ending up with the 2nd seed in the WC and winning the SE division. Having an MVP candidate. DMo's breakout season. Josh Smith's redemption. The comeback of all comebacks and making it to the WCF. Will never take those for granted.

But we've had some low lows as well. Like the injuries. The playoff blowouts. McHale's 3 year extension.

Life goes on and we keep hoping.

There are a certain number of people that do enjoy being negative.

There are posters who are still resentful over Jeremy Lin's repeated failures and would like to avenge themselves after Rockets losses.

There are others who experienced so many years of losing they forgot what it feels like to be relevant.

Either way--the demographics of users posting shifts rapidly after playoffs losses

But that's the problem isn't it? It's been a whole lot of nothing for the last 18 years. To the point that we're happy about being swept out of the conference finals.

But to be fair, there's not much to be positive about after losing by 35 at home.

    Yes and no.

Some people are just plain negative and you know who they are.

But to lump all negative comments about the team together as the same thing is just as bad as those negative posts, because you know what... being negative about the negativity is negative too.

This forum has been divided by so many things.
    TMac fans vs TMac haters
Lin fans vs Lin fans haters
    DMo fans vs Jones fans
    Harden critics vs Harden apologists
    Dwight critics vs Dwight apologists
    Morey critics vs Morey apologists
Negative posters vs Negative posters haters
    etc.

    Rockets fans unite!

I think most people, especially if has to do with something they care about, have an innate revulsion to seeing things done poorly when you know it could be done better. There's nothing wrong with that.

Now when we look at the big picture, of course, we see exceeding of expectations this year, and that's a warm fuzzy feeling. But it's also adds to the point frustration of seeing the team continue to make mistakes it always does where it counts, and ever game is huge in the playoffs.

You can be repulsed by the Rockets' continued inability to make free throws (and the number of games they've lose solely due to that, the most fundamental of all things in basketball). You can scream bloody murder at their horrific and abysmally idiotic turnover numbers. Everyone has a right to do that. They WILL NOT win a Finals playing like that. You can also acknowledge the huge accomplishment of getting to 2nd in the West this season through innumerable injuries.

There's nothing wrong with any of it. These aren't mutually exclusive feelings; on the contrary, the fact that they AREN'T mutually exclusive is the reason everyone's emotions get so exacerbated about the team. You get angry about things you care about; you don't get a **** about things you don't. Around here, we could use fewer reactionary threads, but also fewer ****ty reactions to reactionary threads. We all care; the extremes need to moderate.

The thing is you can raise expectations, but they still have to be realistic.

Beating one of the better teams in league history is a realistic expectation for this Rockets team? I'd say no.

I think the WCF is the BEST we could have expected going into this season. With all the crap that went wrong and they still managed to make that a reality, to me, is exceeding expectations.

My favorite part about the haters coming out after losses is when they explain away our previous wins. It's the best. Yeah we beat the clips, but they were tired and there bench sucks so big whoop. lol

    nature of any sports forums

people become too emotionally invested in certain players or even ideas, I'm one of them too.

but what's more annoying is the people that won't admit they are wrong, so they just end up being really really bitter all the time until their opinion is right for one game. It's a pathetic way to be a fan, they are not even watching basketball anymore, they are watching just so they can be right on an internet forum and gloat about it.

I think sometimes are straight up trolling, like the people that literally hate Harden/TJones/McHale so much that they stop posting when we win and Harden has a big game, and then come out of the woodworks after every loss to shet on them in every thread. It's truly pathetic in every way

Says the guy who said in the game thread that GSW would come back and win this game because they're too good. Pessimist.

I have a feeling a lot of these aren't Rockets fans, unfortunately, so they want to get a shot in when things are going bad.

Also, I think the "bigger picture" will be looked at more favorably after the season. Should we be eliminated, I bet there will be a lot of people thinking this was overall a good season. I’ll certainly be depressed if we lose game 5, but I’ll feel content we’re successful and we can build upon this in the offseason. It’s a lot easier to recruit various FAs as a WCF finalist than the team that got skewered by Damian Lillard.

I'm glad the Rockets were able to pull this one out.

Tied for my points in a quarter in playoff history and that Warriors team still wouldn't go away. That team is good

Rockets still have a chance to win this thing though

To get out of a historically competitive conference that is led by a historically good team to face the Cavs in the final?

Nah bro, the Roxs exceeded expectations.
