The drums are fine, but do the guys need to paint themselves up so much. The youngens in the family are scared to look at them.

There's a reason that Rockets fans have overwhelmingly voted that RED should once again be the predominant color. It gives us continuity, reminds us of a past that is soaked in glory.

Now we're back in red. We're again a contendor. Let's get back to the old theme.

Can you imagine the electricity on opening night, new stadium, new uniforms, Gundy, once again the brilliant Rocket Red, and then the speakers blaring the old school clutch city theme? Man, I'm getting goosebumps.

(By the way, I think the drums are great as a secondary, auxillary source of music. Maybe during timeouts or other parts of the game. But they're not stirring or epic enough for the intro).

So what exactly are you trying to say? ;)

I must admit part of the reason I like the drum intro so much is we get to watch the Powerdancer asses moving in unison to the beat. So sue me!

    I like the drums.

The techno song was okay and brought good memories, but time to move on.

I really want to see something new to go with our new arena, uniform, coach, and hopefully winning team.

    Listen Up

Clutch City is the Houston Rockets. Can everyone agree with me on that? I think so. When you hear our old techno theme, what do you think of? All of the good times of the Clutch City era when the Rockets were KINGS of the basketball world. If you are a die hard Rockets fan, this song with its pulsating beats should SEND CHILLS UP YOUR SPINE like it does MINE. Clucth City was spawned out of this era. And from that point on, there should be only one entrance theme for this team. Just like the Bulls, who till this day, still play the now fimilar entrance theme we all know and can associate with them and that great era for that franchise. And there fans dont complain and beg for change. If you want to forge a memorable moment or event out of this, sometimes you have to stick with one thing the fans have always liked until it becomes a tradition. That's what the Bulls have done and that's what we need to do. We have the opportunity. And with the new arena logo's and uni's and transition into a new era, this is the right time. You cant forget the past. Just like you "remember the Alamo," its time to "remember Clutch City." you better "Believe it, AGAIN!"

And for those you want the drummers. If you really want the drummers that bad, why not incorporate there music into the old Cutch City entrance theme? This woould solve everything and satisify all fans.

Tim, do the RIGHT THING and restore the old techno theme. Its should be the only theme for this TEAM!

Exactly. Tigereye brings up an excellent point with the Bulls. This is all about branding. One reason I like the new logo is that it is simple, clear, forceful, and should last us for many years. The logo is just one element of branding. Another element is the color scheme, and I'm ecstatic that we're back with red. A third element is the theme music. The clutch city theme song is just part of Brand Rocket.

I understand the point about new team, new coach, new arena, new music. Fair enough. I would aruge, though, that succesful longterm branding demands a balance of continuity and freshness. While it's good to have change, it's also important to remember and appreciate our rich tradition. We already have a host of new changes this year. The old school music would give us a link to those warm memories of glory.

And as I've argued earlier, the theme song and the drums are not mutually exclusive. The drums can be used sporadically to give us a change of pace.

It's tough to build a brand. It takes years and years of reinforcing positive feelings with the same stimulus. Fans don't learn as fast as Pavlov's dog. But here, with the clutch city theme, we already HAVE something that fans immediately associate with the Rockets and with success. This didn't come cheap; it took two championships. Why discard it?

Tim, I know we're a lousy focus group. Too skewed with your ardent customers. Would it help, though, if we did a Clutchcity poll for the Championship Theme vs. the Drums?

(in other words----let's get that New Coke off the shelves and bring back the Coke Classic!)

Which reminds me. When the Rockets make the playoffs, who thinks it would be cool to have some promo material, maybe red signage, that says:

    "It's Time to Believe Again."

Kam, thanks for bringing this up.

I also want to see this part of the intros brought back alontg with the song. Its unique in all of sports and lets the other team know exactly where they are, in CLUTCH CITY, baby.

Tim, are you reading these repsonses? Please, feel free to chim in and let us know what you have up your sleave for next season in regards to the player intro's.

    Thanks
    :)

    Rasselas, excellent response.

And yes, please do a poll. I think the results should speak for themselves.

The Rockets should play up the NASA style lift-off angle, perhaps interspersing the Def Leppard song "Rocket" into it.

I think that could turn out to be really cool.

Oh, and the drums suck, Mario Nanni is annoying, and the old techno theme was awesome (although it appears that A LOT of you are sick of it).

Maybe someone can come up with a new theme with BASS. That's what an intro really needs.

The drums should only be there for the intro/opening. After that they should not appear again till maybe halftime.

If you are one of the unlucky season ticket holders who constantly has those drums in your ears then you know what I'm talking about. They stand next to you on the second deck and bang it loud and long enough to give you a headache.

Anyone who can do something about this, please take note as I know many season ticket holders who feel the same way.
