Dallas would KILL for Cato right now given the huge donut hole they have at center. His game would fit them like a glove. I may bash LaFrenz but after watching him closely, he appears to be more of a PF than a center. He's a better outside shooter than MoT and EG but he's simply terrible on defense and has few, if any, low post moves. He'd be really great playing EuroBall because the physicality of the NBA definitely gives him problems.
"Smart" players don't average a foul every 6 minutes for their career. Raefs contract makes every contract we have look like a bargain.
Where did u get ur stat? These are career's numbers from nba.com ------- G GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG Raef 318 285 29.4 .469 .372 .696 2.10 4.90 7.10 1.1 .56 2.22 1.08 3.70 12.2 Cato 365 131 19.0 .522 .077 .608 1.60 3.50 5.20 .4 .48 1.33 .76 2.50 5.5 Raef: 29.4 mins/ 3.7 fouls = 7.9 mins/ foul Cato: 19 mins/ 2.5 = 7.6 mins/ foul Don't tell me Raef does not play defense either. He avg 2.22 blocks/ gm compared to Cato 1.33. Cato shoots better, but u better check Raef's 2 pt FG%. It is actually right at 50% for his career too. I never said Raef's contract is cheap but Cato and MoT's are no bargain no matter how u slice them!
I remember JVG speaking about Raef during his commentary during both the Dal-Sac and Dal-S.A. series. He was commending him when he came low and posted up. JVG says he has relied too much on his outside shot(which isn't his primary game), but still has a great game. He can play 5, but 4 is his natural position and I wouldn't mind him being on the team. He could flourish given the right opportunity. But Cato made great strides last year and is a much more capable back-up than most teams have. Bottom line, Cato is on the rise, Raef is on the decline. How 'bout Collier for LaFrentz!!!! heh
1st. According to Patricia's site Reaf is a free agent in 07. 2nd. The total price of the contract is very relevant because the money coming out of Les's pockets is real money. Not only that but if we aquired Reaf and he performed the way he did last year then he would be 100% untradable until the last year of his contract when someone might be looking for some salery relief. In 2005 when Les decides not to resign a very productive player on our team because it would put us too far over the Luxery Tax threshold we could put the blame soley on Reaf and his untradable contract.
It is a player option in 07. Given Raef signed it in 02 and it is listed as a 7 year/70 mil deal what are the odds Raef won't cash in his player option (I assume through 09) for the extra 25 million or so through 08, 09. If it wasn't for those guaranteed player option years the difference between his and Cato's would be much less--but again I think it is safe to say Raef is going to take those extra two years for like 25 mil. Again, at least in Cato's case we are like halfway through the contract (its already paid, irrelevant now), Raef's just started. The average salary and total salary comparisons miss this--and it makes Raef's contract/timetable for all practical reasons much worse--at least once Cato's contract is through (06).
