It messes up the format of the ESPN nba page. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/story?page=2003/freeagents/scoreboard
Heh, damn, it does stand out from all the others, but it's not like people go "damn, that stands out, I'm gonna buy some Rockets gear now." Instead, it stands out like "wtf were they thinking?"
I call it the "Reign in Blood" logo. It looks rather grisly. I think it looks terrible on that ESPN page for sure.
You know, I thought the same thing. Would it be cooler if the circle part of the H were angled? I noticed that most of the other logos have basketballs in some form angled with the name also angled across it. I don't know...just an observation.
When I saw that, I almost fell off the chair laughing. It's like a brother in Utah...it catches your attention by sticking out like a sore thumb, then you go "What the f&$# is that?!" It looks AWFUL.
The bottom line is that our logo reminds me A LOT of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer logo...you know...the one that is just the "B". UPN ought to be really mad.
Anybody else notice that our logo is THE ONLY ONE on that page that does not have either the name of the team or the city on it anywhere to be found. THIS is NOT a "classic and timeless" logo like the Rockets brass had promised.
It looks like I'm in an ever decreasing minority, but I love the new logo! It would look excellent on a hat or shirt. It just looks weird on the espn site because it isn't shrunken down to a proper size.
Lynus likes it too. I'm still split. I don't hate or love it. I think it has cool potential. But it does look kinda dorky on the site.
I tried making this point so many times in the original threads and the "Logo's" biggest supporters would say things like "you wanted simple, classy, and timeless and you got it but you still b**** etc. . blah blah blah." You just can't convince those guys that there's nothing classy or timeless about that logo. It's not even simple because it has too much ambiguity going for it. Is it a basketball hoop? A Saturnesque ring?
As AntiSonic said, the other logos are 50 x 50 pixels. Ours is 80 x 80. I'm not sure whose responsibility it was, but they need to make our logo smaller. But then the Lakers, Bucks, and others on there have problems, too. Hell, the Grizzlies' logo isn't even showing up and when you click on the placeholder, it goes to the Wizard's site.
i was starting to accept the logo, but after looking at it along w/ all those other teams i would say that ours is the weakest one there. it looks really generic next to the other ones. it doesnt seem like a professional team's logo to me. it also seems that the ring is too low on the R. it looks like the R is hula-hooping or something. when people were calling for a more retro look, i think they were hoping for a return to original unis and logo, or something more along those lines. i for one would have loved it if they just simply went back to the "old school" unis.
The "R" isn't the logo. That's the "abbreviated logo" so to speak. You know how the Rockets had a "Logo" which was the red basketball with "ROCKETS" across it and the little rocket? And THEN they had that slanted metallic "R" with the little rocket? Well that little slanted Metallic R is the same as this new "R".. it's not the logo.. it's kind of like a logo teaser.
