Can you really be overrated if you've won an NBA championship?

The West was harder this year than the Del Negro 56 win season, so that argument is out.

The collapse in game 6 was some of his fault, sure, but he can't control the fact that his team missed shots.

The Clippers were the second hottest team coming into the playoffs, and they had to be matched up against the overall hottest team, the Spurs. I don't think many people thought they'd last past 6 games, much less win it in 7. THEY BEAT THE SPURS. Not only did every other team breathe a sigh of relief in the West, but I'm pretty sure LeBron thought "thank goodness there's no chance of going against them this postseason."

He still hasn't gotten the Clippers further than Del Negro did and he has had three cracks at it.

He had the Rockets down 3-1 and a double digit lead in the 4th quarter at home in game 6 and they ended up being out scored by like 25 points in 12 minutes. If McHale or most other coaches did that, they would be destroyed by the media and fans.

At some point you just accept it hasn't been a successful marriage. Rivers isn't a terrible coach, he knows how to handle people and his X's and O's have improved, but he for whatever reason, cannot read the pulse of his team.

    Agreed.

Also consider he had a lot of years with Garnett, Allen, Pierce and Rondo... And has only the one championship. Yes it is one... But those 4 should have won two... Imo.

I agree with you completely.... I think he might be doing things slightly wrong and he is very unlucky

Most game 7's in history and the most 3-1 chokes.

I'd say he's on the hotseat, but I don't think Clipper fans care and Ballmer just seems to be a totem.

Yes, McHale would have been crushed in the same scenario. He also would have been slaughtered for playing his clearly mentally handicapped son big minutes. Hell, minutes distribution in general does not appear to be a strength for Doc.

Frankly, how Doc Rivers came to be known as this elite coach who can put you over the top is a little beyond me. He's capable, sure, I'm not seeing the brilliance. He just got out-coached by Kevin McHale, whom everyone will tell you is the worst coach that has ever coached.

How about some credit to our own guys for the resiliency, heart, desire and unquenchable thirst to win that was shown.

It's not Doc's fault we weren't going to be denied. Dude was coming off beating the defending Champs and one of the best coaches to ever coach the game.

Doc couldn't win against us, but he has won a NBA Championship as a head coach.

    He is a good coach.

He is a good coach. But to me he's a CEO. Like McHale. Doc surrounds himself with an elite coaching staff to get by (he didn't have that in Orlando). Nothing wrong with that but if you're rating him you have to take that into account. He's not great with granular X's and O's but he's good at managing the game.

That's not a knock on Doc Rivers is it? I was always led to believe it was T-Macs fault in Orlando.

it was nobody's fault, that Orlando team was never meant to beat that Detroit team. Does anyone fault Kobe and Phil Jackson for blowing a 3-1 lead to the Suns

Yeah... except the Clippers didn't lose because of X's and O's.

They would have won at least two if not for Garnett's knee injury in 2009 and Joey Crawford's whistle in 2010.
