Normally I'd say it is way too late to be trying new things, but we no longer have home court. It's worth a shot mixing things up game 1 if the goal is to split at GS.

The reason they didnt try it is because playing zone requires coordination between all the players. You cant just suddenly decide to use it, you have to have used it before in the regular season otherwise the players will not react as quickly. It's really hard to change things at this point of the season. They should try something more simple like a full court press just to tire out Curry. They should watch tapes on how Memphis contained them in games they won. If not for their injury problems, i believe we would be meeting MEM instead of GSW.

I expect them to play a modified version of the zoneā€¦.i.e. switching.

Rockets already switch. The beauty of having every player being able to defend any position

seems like the rockets already play a zone that switches on screens. It looks like half court 1-3-1 which allows us to play passing lanes and swarm the paint.

We have communication issues as is, zone defense is going to be tough to constantly pull off. Just think it's going to confuse them even more.

Albeit a zone defense could help when vs plays when they try to get Curry to come off picks at the top of the key. They like to use him as a decoy in those situations so he can just dump it off to a rolling Andrew Bogut who can then either get an easy dunk or make a pass to an open shooter.

No. Has the Clippers series taught you nothing?

If man defense fails, the Rockets should consider PLAYING HARDER.

You are crazy. Zone defense is only effective against bad shooting teams in the NBA. The Warriors are the. best shooting team in the nba

Not only this but to run a good zone you really have to practice it all year long which is something I doubt we have done. Your guys need to basically be on a string and move as one to be able to guard NBA caliber shooters, not to mention the likes of the warriors.

What is your problem lately? You've turned into Randy Quaid in Major League 2.

No. You go with the defensive scheme that you got here. The zone defense is something you implement over the offseason. It's not something you can pull out of your hat during the WCF. This isn't NBA 2K.

Mentioned this as a reasonable way of guarding a very hot shooting team...The Warriors had some real issues last night against the Mavs initially who surprisingly kept the game close till the mid 3rd quarter when Curry and Green woke up. They started abusing the post defenders and it all fell apart from there for the Mavs.

The Rockets really have the personnel for it. So far the Rockets have shown to be a really poor man-man defense...even though they switch like crazy. Not sure why they cant try something different. Ofcourse it would NOT work well against some teams, but its time the Rockets really addressed ways to change how they guard teams. This year, theyve been statistically one of the worst in the league.

These guys always complain about NOT communicating well, but with speed on the perimeter...The Rockets could mask some of the inefficiency of Harden and others by considering a different approach defensively. A mix of a zone and man might jumpstart this defense.

    1. Zone defense's worst weakness is defensive rebounding. The Rockets are bad at boxing out. Wait till they play zone defense...

    2. Zone defense can mask poor defenders who are physically incapable of playing good defense: slow, lack of lateral quickness. It does not mask the poor defenders who are lack of focus. In fact, zone defense demands more focus on team work, positioning, and communication. All these are weaknesses of the Rockets.

I agree. Our defensive issues are mostly lack of focus and baffling lack of communication.

Once we step that aspect up then we definitely should occasionally throw out some zone defense to throw off teams.

this team only one thing. that is playing man2man and switching on everything.

what is zone defense? that's a foreign concept to our dear head coach mr. jb.

its better to switch everything, esp centers on pgs. how are the little guys of the nba gonna shoot over a 7 foot behemoth, who has a reputation of sneaking in an elbow when he's in the paint? good defensive scheme jb and morey. switch everything
