U know what? thats not a bad idea and bet he would be cheap. I remembered he burned us during that one game where Matt Harpering made that 3 to go to OT.
I always liked him as a shooter. He would fit in well with our guards but I don't know if that's the type of 3 that we need with Pike and Rice on hand.
His numbers have slipped a bit in recent years, but i think he'd be a good one to pick up. I can't say I remember seeing him play a game. How's his defense?
want a longshot? charles smith, he was on the blazers, no idea where he is now, but he had killer D ( i personnally watched him shutdown Jordan and Kobe in consecutive games) and decent offense and he would be easy to get. hes a J. Hawkins with better size and strength
Charles Smith? Aren't he and Francis about the same size? EDIT: in other words, i don't see how he'd have size and strength ^^
According to his NBA profile, he's 6'4 200lbs. So...uh...yeah. About the same. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/charles_smith/?nav=page
I believe Charles Smith has a VERY abnormal wingspan for his size. He is 6'4'', but supposedly has the wingspan of a 6'10'' guy. Maybe I am thinking of someone elsen though. Hmmmm. EDIT: Actually, he has a wingspan of 7'!!!! That is UNBELIEVABLE for a 6'4'' guy.
I figured he had to have a heck of a wingspan if someone said he had great size. Well, that or someone had been drunk when they watched him. Didn't expect 7' though. That's pretty crazy.
I remember looking at some boxscores when he was with the Spurs. He would, quite often, have 2-3 blocks a game. I always assumed he was much taller and was quite suprised to see he was only 6'4''. To put that in perspective, I believe a normal person's wingspan is equivalent to their height (i.e. a 6'10'' guy will have a 6'10'' wingspan). Yao's wingspan, I believe, is something like 88 3/4" wingspan, which is slightly below average for his height. To think that Yao is 14 inches taller than Smith but only has a wingspan that is 4 3/4" longer is just mind boggling.
Ya, that monster wingspan is what i was talking about, any1 know how old he is or where he is? i remember his length bothering kobe so much he was constantly complaining to the refs about phantom fouls (wait he does that for everyone) but He reminds me alot of kirelinko (sp?) in the way that he plays tenacious d and gets abnormal blks for his size.
According to the link I gave above, he will be 28 next month. I don't know where he is now, but he played 3 games with portland last year, scoring almost 2 ppg in about 4 mpg. Hmm...he got a real big chance last year.
Cheaney is decent with John Stockton setting him up nicely and with a good system...I thought he was a rookie at first but I found out he's already like 30...I would like to have him to share time at the 3 with Rice, Pike, Nachbar, and Mobley....
I remember hearing his wingspan was closer to 7'2. His hands cover his knees when he's standing up straight. I believe his nickname was the Spider.
Calbert cheaney?? to start?? I don't know, I watched him play a lot some years ago when he was the starting 2-guard for the wizards (or bullets). He plays well sometimes, but he is not a starter. His outside shot was inconsistent. I think he has already peaked... he maybe a fine backup, but I won't start him.
How about Steve Smith. Really, he would be cheap and experienced. He defentlly has a 3point shot. He has size at 6'8". Smart B-Ball player. He could play about 20 min. a night and be a good starter. When we need to change the pace and get more athletic we could go with Boki or a three gaurd line-up. I know some will say he is just like Rice but if you've really watched him play he is more mobile and a better all around player at this point in his carrer. He doesn't turn the ball over and is a good guy. He also would be alot cheaper so we could get something out of Rice possibly in a trade. Just having him out there with his three point threat and size would clear up lanes and keep the D honest. Another point he is more durable then broken Ricecakes.
Move eddie to the three and start Mo at the four. That's what's gonna happen, not what I think should happen. Although it does seem interesting to me.
Who's the back up 4 if thats the case. It worked when we had KT. If we start EG then we need some age in the starting line up. A good solid play-off tested vet at the 3. Rice might work but he stays hurt, plays little D, and can't play too many min. Thats why I suggest S Smith even if we keep Rice. He is a better starter than Rice and not that less of shooter.
