with the signing of Pike, we have 10 players under contract...

so what do we conceivably have to spend?
    $3mm on 4 players?

we still have 1/2 of the MLE ($4.917mm)...we can use the MLE for up to 6 players...

we could sign hawkins for the nba minimum (1 year NBA experience) = $564,000...

    then what?

I could definately see this happening.
I don't think he would settle for 2.5 mil, but I think Kendall Gill would start for us at the 3. He can shoot, and he's more familiar with how to play NBA defense than any 2 or 3 on our roster.

I thought Best signed with Boston.

    I'd love Kenny Anderson.

2002-2003 salaries for some mentioned in this thread...
Some will probably demand more, but most are pretty reasonable..

    Kendall Gill = $1,030,000
    Raja Bell = $612,435
    Rick Brunson = $512,435
    Jon Barry = $3,175,000
    Darvin Ham = $1,400,000
    Travis Best = $1,400,000
    Lee Nailon = $875,000
    Charles Oakley = $1,030,000
    Demarr Johnson = $2,423,280
    Jacque Vaughn = $699,935
    Mark Jackson = $1,030,000
    Anthony Johnson = $699,435
    Voshon Leonard = $824,935
    Jimmy Jackson = 1,030,000
    Kenny Anderson = $9,185,000 (wow)
Stephen Jackson = $587,435 (wants significantly more)
Calbert Cheaney = $1,000,000 (mentioned in another thread)
Tyrone Hill = $6,600,000 (seem awfully high)
Derrick Coleman = $9,265,610 (forget him)

Clippers match offer sheet for Maggette

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Clippers retained shooting guard Corey Maggette on Tuesday, matching the offer sheet he signed July 14 with the Utah Jazz.

The Clippers previously kept forward Elton Brand by matching the offer sheet he signed with the Miami Heat, and have until Wednesday to decide whether they'll match the offer sheet point guard Andre Miller signed with Denver.

Maggette signed a six-year offer sheet with Utah believed to be worth $42 million. He is now under contract for those terms with the Clippers.

Brand's contract is believed to be worth $83 million over six years while the offer sheet Miller signed with Denver is for six years for more than $51 million.

"Through consistent hard work and effort, Corey has improved his game each year he has been in the league, and there is no reason to believe he won't continue to get even better," Clippers general manager Elgin Baylor said in a statement. "We're really glad that he will be back for the long term."

The 6-foot-6 Maggette is coming off his best season, averaging 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 31.3 minutes in 64 games. He ranked second on the team in scoring, increasing his average by 5.4 points over the previous season.

The 23-year-old Maggette has averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 23.3 minutes in 273 career games over four seasons.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to coach Corey," new Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "Obviously, I have followed him closely since his days at Duke. He has done a terrific job of developing his all-around game and I look forward to being a part of his continued development."

Maggette played one season at Duke before making himself available for the NBA draft. He was a first-round pick of Seattle in 1999 - the 13th overall selection - before being traded to Orlando. He averaged 8.4 points in his one season with the Magic and 10.0 points and 11.4 points in his first two years with the Clippers.

The Clippers' decision to match Utah's offer sheet was another blow to the Jazz. John Stockton retired following last season, and Karl Malone signed with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this month as a free agent.

In addition, Utah struck out in its attempts to sign Andre Miller to an offer sheet, and Brad Miller to a free-agent contract. The Jazz have about $20 million to spend under the salary cap of $43.84 million announced by the NBA earlier this month.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the $ situation in Clipperland now-a-days? Did Odom sign with them already? If not, losing Kandi...do they need a center under contract?...a signed Mobley?

Also, someone else mentioned earlier Utah's situation...how are they going to fill there roster...can we take advantage of this in some manner?

You talk like he's the only one that can help a players' shooting. What did he do to find Eddie's shot?

Of the guys making a $1.5mm or less...you got...

    Kendall Gill = $1,030,000
    Raja Bell = $612,435
    Rick Brunson = $512,435
    Darvin Ham = $1,400,000
    Travis Best = $1,400,000
    Lee Nailon = $875,000
    Charles Oakley = $1,030,000
    Jacque Vaughn = $699,935
    Mark Jackson = $1,030,000
    Anthony Johnson = $699,435
    Voshon Leonard = $824,935
    Jimmy Jackson = $1,030,000
    Calbert Cheaney = $1,000,000

    TAKE YOUR PICK
Although highly unlikely, I want Jimmy Jackson...

...but gill, bell, ham, nailon, leonard, or cheaney would also be fine by me....

Of the sf mentioned we might as well start Rice. The players that are left couldn't even start for their respective teams but we want them to start for us. Hell we might as well resign W Williams as ou 3rd sf; at least he knows our players and can shoot the three. The sf left that I keep hearing mentioned are not gret defenders, passers, and can't hit the outside shoot. They are barlely holding on to NBA jobs but we think they will be of great help, please, WE NEED A TRADE.

I agree with alley-oop on this one. the guys that many have mentioned CAN play the 3, but there is a reason they are still available (they suck). I mean Calbert Chaney?????? We have 2 4's who could start in the east, 2 5's who could start anywhere, an expiring contract worth $9 million, and if we HAVE to a cheap 2 guard that can fill it up. That is a lot of commdities when your looking to trade. Im not saying Vince Carter or TMAC, but Tim Thomas or Sprewell or Robinson. We dont need an allstar (well it would be nice) we need a guy that is good enough to give you reason to play him for 30 mins. Maybe I am wrong, but with what we have to get rid of I would think we could find a taker.

I know we've talked about this to death, but I think Portland is where we need to look.

Its been said by Patterson from Ptld thet he intends to cut their payrole buy $20 MILLION buy the next 2-3 years:eek: This is partly to due with their owner loosing half of his money. He is worth 21 billion this year after being worth 40 billion the year before. Almost all of his 94 companies have had some sort of layoffs, restructuring, or being sold. The blazers had the highest payroll. We all know he also wants to clean up their image.

People who contend that it woul take a superstar to get Wallace, but if you do that your payrole stays the same. Plus he's not worth that. When you are tring to get cheaper you take a step down in talent(see: Hawks, Bucks, and Wash.)

Also personal reelations are important in getting deals done. We have that. I would be surprized to see something happen using Rices 9-11 million coming of the books next season because we don't need it.

    Jimmy Jackson
    Lee Nailon
    Darvin Ham
    Stephen Jackson
    Kendall Gill

...are all better options than Rice in our starting lineup...and none of them struggle to get PT on their respective teams.

I like Darvin Ham and Lee Nailon in that group. I think they could be had cheaply as the summer goes on. Stephen Jackson will lower his expectations as no one will pay him that much for one good year and the interest will wane.

Darvin Ham barely could break Atl's rotation, a good hustle, hard fouling, 10th man, nothing more. Hard call between Tmo and him--I might just resign Tmo instead who is taller, younger and has more talent. Though I do admit I like the way Ham plays better with the low level talent he has than the way Tmo does with a tad more talent.

No more older players like J Jackson or Gill or Barry or Cheney--we got the best fit for us in this group in Pike already.

Bell is OK but can't play the 3 which is what we need, I rather stick with the taller Hawkins.

    S. Jackson would be great if he would sign for 2 mil starting next year (fat chance but sure offer it)--all we can offer left from our MLE I believe.

Nailon or Adrian Griffin or John Wallace would be OK for cheap: 1-1.5 mil for the first two or the league min for Wallace.

I would prefer Harvey and Demarr over the above 3--they are 22-23 and have more talent than the above 3, even if you have no idea what you are going to get.

Is there anyways we can trade moochie and motay for a small forward. hell i'm willing to do mooche for tyron lue and a pf. If D Armstrong is still available can we still sign him or even T. Hardaway. Then we can trade mooche for a pf to come off the bench

I thought there were 12 active spots and 3 inactive spots (formerly known as injured reserve). If so, we have 5 spots open.
Given that, I'd want to bring back Tmo and JHawk at minimum.
Can always stash them on the inactive.

I like Travis Best and Ty Hill as vet role players if they take vet min.

I like V. Leonard and J. Berry, too, but don't see the need for another 2 unless we trade the Cat.
