Good analogy. Sam Mack could do everything that Jackson does, and we'd only have to pay him in weed.

Stephen Jackson has a weird shot but the ball goes in. If we signed him.....I would not let him every try to drive or handle the ball. If you watched the playoffs......he made a lot of clutch shots.....but whenever he tried to do something like attack the basket...he always ended up stuck and tries to pass it out but makes a turnover. I swear he had like 5 turnovers a game. I'm surprised Gregg Poppovich never yelled at him...But he did have one nice crossover move that faked out Jason Kidd AND Kenyon Martin. That was a nice play...I would like him.

But Jimmy Jackson would be even better! Has he officially been signed?

Steven Jackson is garbage, i could stand on the 3 pt line and rainbow 3 pointers all day if tim duncan was getting triple teamed when the ball was within 8 ft of him (suns D). I'd rather have barry, or Jim jackson before that guy, I'm tellin you, do not sign jackson, he is so overrated its not even funny. Jackson, posey, kenny T, and brad miller, all are benifiting for desperate teams, who need help at their positions so they overpaid bigtime, hope we dont make the same mistake.

I think that SJ's ties to Houston may play a major factor in where he ends up.

He's an H-town guy that may realize the money he wants isn't out there - so might as well come home.

If he's willing to realize he doesn't deserve the big bucks then I'd take a gamble on him on the cheap.

The guy was once a highly heralded recruit out of high school, same McDonald's class as Kobe. I think the kid can still get a lot better.

Mixed feeling about Jackson. He played quality minutes for the Spurs; however, several other spurs players played vital roles as well.

What I dislike about Jackson is that he is inconsistent. On a team that is trying to find efficiency, I'm not sure if Jackson is the right guy for the job. Plus, I keep hearing he was a headache and a complainer.

I think Rockets are pretty decent as it is. If we need another player we can pick him up during the trade deadline during the season.

    OS-Good find.

Honestly, the guy isn't all that different than James Posey. He's an athletic finisher, who can usually stick the open 3. He just needs to know his limitations. He's not as polished a defender as Posey, but he's showing serious improvement- the job he did on Shandn Jeffersn was exactly the way to do it- he used his own athleticism to neutralize Jeffersns, and since Jeffersn can't shoot or dribble, he was a non factor.

I think he wants too much. If we can get him to a contract starting under 2 mill for less than 3 years, I think Jackson/Piatkowski would be a pretty solid alternative to Posey. That's a big if, though, as far as what he seems to want $-wise.

I would pass up on him as well.He can score and has improved his defense but makes too many mistakes and wants more money than he deserves.

I agree with Thanos. I'd rather have Posey for the same money b/c he has more of an SFs body, but if Jackson would agree to a 2 year deal starting at 3.5 or 4 year deal starting at 3 mil I'd be just fine letting Posey go.

The reason the Spurs are not offering Jackson a suitable contract is because they need to save money to sign Manu next year because they will not have his full bird rights. That is why they took on Mercer and Hedo and some other guys with expiring contracts. There is no question Spurs would not have won the titled last year w/o Jackson--he was a key player on that team--but maybe they are reading it as either Jackson this year or Manu next year (or Hedo, or a bigtime FA), and the latter is more important to them.

BTW I don't see any reason for us to pursue J Jackson or Barry or Peeler seeing as we already signed our 32+ year old sharp shooter, but if J.Jackson (who can play some SF even if he is short for one) would sign for a 1-1.5 mil that would be a steal. I just think S. Jackson is more probable and he is much younger--him being from Houston is a good thing.

Remember the last time the Spurs let their starting 2 guard go to us over money? That sure worked out for us (Mad Max).

I would like SJ on the Rockets. Port Arthur is where he is from, not Houston, so I do not know if that whole "hometown discount" thing applies. His numbers are almost identical to Posey, with a big exception in the TO category. Posey really accepted his role with the team. If the Rockets could get SJ to do the same and for less money than it would have taken for Posey, I really see it as possible for the Rockets to sign Jackson.

For those thinking Jackson might be had for a reasonable price .... Jackson is represented by Dan Fegan.

Seeing him pout and sit away from all his teammates during the playoffs whenever he got taken out made me want to puke. The Rockets don't need that.

Thanks, Pipe. I just saw that Jackson's agent is Fegan off of the ESPN Insider and all hope for the Rockets having SJ dissapated.

Why does everybody want to ship out our local "idiots" (SF and Cat), and bring in another in SJ?

I honestly think that Jackson is not very good. If Spur cannot afford him, I do not think that the rocket should spend a lot of money on him.

If he come in cheap that would be OK.
However, I think that he will demand a lot of money.

Couldn't agree more. Let's say, hypothetically, Cat played for the Spurs. We'd all be concocting dream scenarios of how to land him, bemoaning our team and thinking that "This team is on the cusp. If only we had a hard-nosed shooting guard that could create his own shot and play some defense!" I agree that Cat needs to pass more. But given his work ethic and unflagging hard play, he sure doesn't get much love.
