sorry if it's been posted before and i know it's not much (that should be the opening line of every thread in here), but it seems like the rox are interested in stephen jackson. here ya go... interested in jackson Stephen Jackson will not return to Spurs LAST UPDATE: 7/29/2003 7:24:47 AM Posted By: Spurs News Editor After failed negotiations in which Spurs coach Gregg Popovich blamed Jackson's agent for wanting the Spurs to pay the guard more money than the team was willing to, the guard's days in a Spurs uniform appear over. "Jack will not be here," Popovich said. "The chances of that are very slim." "We would have been in a situation as the summer progressed to either lose him or have to pay him over-ridiculously." Popovich added, "Neither of which is a good option because if we had lost him late in the summmer, these trades and these things that we're doing now would not have existed." Niether Jackson or his agent will comment on the negotiations. The Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets have shown interest in Jackson, but neither team has extended a written offer.
Well if the Spurs didn't have enough money to sign him,do you think the Rockets have enough? Can anybody give me a scouting report or a personal opinion on him?Is he good on D?If he comes in,is it to play SF or SG? ALA
let the market for Jax dry up, let him yell at his agent, and then try to get him for 1-2 mil per year.
Jackson is an average to good defender, moves well without the ball, and has the range that Posey lacks. His shooting is certainly better. However, he usually makes stupid mistakes and boneheaded plays that remind me exactly of Steve's and Cat's worse moments. Can play extremely well at times within an estabilished system like San Antonio's, though. Has the height to play the 3. I could undertand stalling Posey if we had a shot at getting Jackson, but I just don't see him accepting half the MLE, all we have to offer.
He turns the ball over way too much, and thinks he's way better than he is. This is the attitude we're trying to get rid of.
Pass indeed! The guy "over achieved' last year and I think was a product of playing with Duncan. He didn't play all that well, and in fact was cut from New Jersey. He will want a big contract. DEFINITELY PASS!
I think he was a good role player for them. He came out big in a few of the games. He has outside range and is a pretty good defender.
He might give up more money to come here since he is a native Houstonian. I think he would also allow us to trade Mobley if the right deal came along. He has starting sg potential.
Jackson has Sam Mack disease. He thought because he scored some big buckets for a good team, he warranted a big payday. The only reason he had a job at all though was because Tim Duncan made him look good. Without the Spurs, I wouldn't be suprised if he were out of the league entirely a year from now. I hope the Rockets do not sign this guy, even for the minimum.
There's no reason to think that Jackson couldn't excel in a system built to mirror San Antonio's, with Yao being Duncan and Francis being Parker... He may not be as good as he think he is, but if we got this guy to play the 3 for half the MLE he certainly would be a nice addition. Of course, I STILL prefer that we match the Grizzilies' offer for Posey.
