July 28, 2003, 11:01PM Rockets uniform made in Taiwan? Cybersleuths were back at work Tuesday, uncovering what they believe to be the first hints at the design of the Rockets' new uniforms. In a picture posted at the NBA's Taiwanese Web site, fans can get a tantalizing look at what appears to be the team's new red and white road uniforms, modeled by Cuttino Mobley. Mobley is shown sitting in an office cubicle, and only the side view of the jersey, with what appears to be circular swooshes running from the shoulder to the waist, are visible. "It's not the final version of the uniform," said team spokesman Nelson Luis. "There are some similarities, but the one you see there is one or two generations away from what we expect for the final model." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/2016463 -- DAVID BARRON
So that's not the actual jersey? Oh well, I guess this means it'll still be a surprise when it is officially released!
We didn't see the real one or is this just a lie so that it's still covered up? I personally think it's just a ploy otherwise it wouldn't be a problem for us to see it.
Cybersleuths? Shouldn't that be "Clutch City.net forum members"? Good to see Barron is still getting his ideas from cc.net.
Exactly. I mean if it were that big of a deal that it were released, you'd think NBA.com would have enough power to overrule NBA Taiwan and take it down. Of course this is a marketing strategy. This would EASILY explain the absence of Tim. They just want to draw attention, and their doing a hell of a great job at it, even from many outside of this site. I think Tim deserves a raise for this!
Ditto. Of course, you can still find the pic at the place where sway first found it... But it's nice to have it on my hard drive. Just in case...
you missed the full quote: can we stop the lock up on the link, now? The chron has officially posted the link. Plus there is a gettyimage picture of full frontal mobley that the chron can easily purchase. All they have to do is go to getty images.
My bad, I thought I was doing Clutch a favor by not posting the link even though it was in the Chronicle article. Anyways, I thought Tim the VP of MKT would comment on the article if I kept it real and omitted the link, guess that did not work
lol, why would cuttino be wearing an unfinished jersey? i guess this was some kind of comercial shoot as well so i'm sure he's representing the the team as they wished. of course that's the real thing, hence the coverups, etc. nothing to be ashamed of though because so far it looks like it's going to be really nice. here's to an earlier release date.
Well it certainly didn't take them long to put a lid on this whole thing. I guess this puts us all back on edge again. Either it really has been a big mistake, or this is the furiously quick response that the suits came up with to appease us. At any rate, it's certainly an interesting chapter for the offseason.
I believe the Rockets recieved such a mixed(there is dripping blood from the logo) reaction to the logo unveiling that they wanted to first submit a 'teaser' for us to latch onto and recieve feedback in a round-about way from the true fans(us), instead of some focus group, before they released the final adaptations of the jersey .
Well, Tim just said in another thread that it really is just an early model of the jersey design, and that the real one still hasn't been seen.
Of course it's the final jersey. Tim and the guys here who have worked on the jersey project have said that the jersey is finalized, so any report coming out now saying the jersey is not finalized is a lie. If the jersey is to be debuted in September it would have to be finished by now. I'd just like to say good job to Tim and all of those on the jersey project. It looks great, and it's a look I never expected.
Thanks for the kind thoughts, D-Roc. To clarify, you're right -- the design has been finalized for a while. Getting a manufacturer to translate that design from a piece of paper to an actual jersey is a more complicated process than it seems, though. So, while the design is final, we haven't seen a final jersey yet. Hope that makes some sense of it. Tim
