I will have to check these out. Have you done any trout fishing up near Matagorda or Galveston Bay? Any tips on where you look? I don't know much about backwater fishing.
Sorry, I've never fished outside of the lower laguna madre. I found spots by asking around, looking for access, and asking what lures and retrieves others use. Post up pictures when you start catching!
It is blocked at my work ... but they left me clutchfans. I think the IT admin is a Rockets fan because every other single forum that uses vBulletin that I have seen is blocked. I will definitely check it out later. Thanks!
Kayaking sounds fun. Heading to DR in a few weeks, what other activities did you/can you do out there. Still working on planning excursions.
Every year I start to get the itch around this time of year. It's because the weather is still cold, but the end of winter is in sight. I've decided this year, I will sell my kayak, which is a four year old sit inside, for a new sit on top kayak. I'm going to buy one specifically for fishing, I think, too. The two I'm torn between are the Vibe Seaghost 130, which is more than I want to spend, especially after shipping, and the Field and Stream Shadow Caster 123. The Shadow Caster is sold very close to my house, and, if I can catch it on sale, I can find a deal. I'm willing to sacrifice speed for stability, and the ability to stand and fish. I'd like something I can stay out for most of the day in. I'll still be fishing Lake Erie, mostly. Anyone else getting amped up for kayak season?
Wife and I have been taking our tandem Hobie out already. It helps that Texas is in sunny 70 degree weather.
FINALLY!!!! Decent winds on a weekend!!! Taking out the kayaks saturday morning to do some kayak fishing!!!!
I never take the yaks surf side. I've hit southbay before, but I'd rather just access south Bay on boat. Too much of a paddle....my spots are on the port isabel or holly beach area. My girl and i usually limit out on trout within a few hours
That's brilliant! I'm jealous. You ever catch reds in the flats? Winter flounder in the passes? Damn I miss the coast.
I'm headed out in mine Saturday for some small mouth fishing as well! It will be the first time this year I've been out. Sucks, high temps are in the low 50's and water temps are in the high 40's, but I've got to go. Been itching for far too long, need to scratch it. Hoping to catch a few 5+ pounders.
What kayak do you have? I have a Wilderness Systems Pamlico 145T and I love it but it fell in my lap and wasn't my first choice. I am looking at getting a legitimate sit-on top angler kayak but am unsure of what to get. I am looking at the Perception Pescador 14, a used Jackson Cuda 14 (they are pricey), Ascend FS128T and a few more. Any recommendations? I am looking to do some inshore fishing, lake fishing and I want to be able to take it through the surf to drop baits for surf fishing.
I have a Pelican fishing kayak...very entry level, but it works great. I don't trust it in the surf, but the shark fisherman I know use ocean kayaks. Can't go wrong with a Hobie either.
Lake Erie. Trophy small mouth fishing. I went out this morning, for the first paddle in my new Vibe Seaghost. It was about 42 out, with 44 degree water and 15 mph winds. I made maybe 30 casts and left. I'm a wuss. I'll head back out the next warmer day off I have. Maybe Monday, but my parents are in town for a funeral, so it may not be appropriate for me to go out Monday. Baumer, the Seaghost seemed pretty nice in my 45 minutes of paddling it. Although, to be honest, I'm a little upset that a kayak in that price range seems to have been scratched more than it should, in my opinion, by some rocks I launched at. My last sit inside, didn't seems to scratch that easily. I need to tighten up one of the foot rests, too, as it seems a bit loose. I like the storage and the inclusion of a rudder, as well. I'll wait for warmer weather before I test it out more, and warmer water before I test its stability more.
Beautiful day, but everyone and their moms were in our fishing spot. Regardless, i landed 3 keeper trout, including this 19 incher. I lost an even larger one at the kayak....damn head shakers...great time!
Nice. I'd kill for some nice weather right now. I may try and go out tomorrow evening, as it's supposed to be in the mid 60's, but it's going to be windy yet again. 15-20mph. Seems to always be windy this time of year.
I agree. I use the Windfinder pro app. Tells winds, temp, waves, tides...If winds are more that 5mph at 7 am, and picking up, we'll scrub the trip. Usually winds tend to pick up after 11am. Hope you can get out there soon. I love getting on the bay.
