i'd agree, but it's waaaay too late. boxing pretty much ended tonight. greed and money ruined the sport more than rules though. 80 different champs in each weight class and being able to pick and choose your fighters are obvious reasons that it's not fun/impossible to follow. if there were simply forced matchups with a ladder system, and one champ per weightclass, boxing's popularity would barely have fluctuated, no matter how crappy the fights are. everybody would know, and want to keep track of the champs.
Agree with some of your points but you must admit this is nothing like watching Ali, Frazier, Sugar Ray, Tyson, Hollyfield, Foreman, Roy Jones, etc etc fights. Was that not also boxing? Floyd is a master at his craft but it's certainly not entertaining
I can't believe people actually pay for Mayweather fights. He's the loop hole in boxing on how to win. His whole fight style is a hack-a-shaq. Counter punch, never leave yourself open to get hit. He's a coward that would be considered the greatest ever if he ever tried to win and dominate his opponents. Instead he's a rich woman beater.
plenty of people watch things they don't care about, this fight was touted to be the fight of the century and the marketing hype was off the room for like 5 years. are you telling me the couple hundred of millions of people that watch super bowl every year are all football fans. that's like saying everyone that complains about hack-a-Howard are all salty Rockets fans by default
Boring ass fight. Manny couldn't counter Floyd's movement with anything. Even when Manny made contact, he'd either stop due to Floyd's blocking, or Floyd would get off the ropes/tie up. Floyd's defense and strategic shots throughout kept Manny at bay. If it's true Manny has a hurt shoulder, than that could be reason why he threw so few punches. We all knew Manny needed to a be a high volume throwing to beat Floyd. Fight wasn't even close. Feeling bad for Manny, I hope he really doesn't think he won that fight. Wished he would of.
that's why i don't care about the opinions of casual football fans that only watch during the super bowl who don't understand the small details that make football great other than long passes, long runs, and big hits.
i loved ali's defense <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0WPuj0gW878" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I guess Mayweather is like the Spurs, he exploits whats legal with boxing and doesn't really try to make it entertaining.
Sadly this fight went exactly like many of us thought it would. Mayweather rarely makes powerful attacks, and is impossible to hit. Wish there was some way around this, but you can't blame Mayweather for exploiting the loophole in the sport. People want to watch a fight, Mayweather has no interest whatsoever in winning a fight, he wants to win a boxing match, which makes for an unwatchable product. I haven't paid for a Mayweather fight in 6 years because of it. Best fighter in the world, and he's unwatchable.
Manny's reach was part of the problem. The only effective way for Manny to get points was when Floyd was close to the ropes. In the center of the ring, Floyd kept his distance so that Manny couldn't land anything. Manny couldn't out jab him because once again he was out of reach, Floyd keeping his distance and once he got close to the ropes, it became predictable and his defense was already set. Rinse and repeat for 12 rounds.
100% agreed on this. The main reason UFC has been rising in popularity isn't IMO because it's a more entertaining sport. It's more organized. You know the rankings, there are not all these weight classes and 10 belts per class. It's clear. This is the guy that's on top, this is #2, this is #3, #4 etc etc. $100 PPV fights are not helping the sport certainly. Helping Floyd and Pacman but this hurt the sport more than helped it certainly. I don't blame Floyd. His job is to win and make money and that's what he does. Hate on him for what he has done outside of the ring but what he's done in the ring is what anyone as talented as him would do. People are dumb if they think he should stand and trade just to entertain people, risk brain damage and his health when he has the ability to simply dodge punches and win matches by scorecard. It's not Floyd's job to save the sport, it's to win matches and get paid. Nah, smart man. If I had Floyd's talent I'd be doing the same thing. Keeping my face clean and winning matches. I'm trying to retire with my health intact to enjoy the rest of MY life, not take significant thumps to the head so you felt like your 100 bucks were worth it. Manny clearly lost that fight and it must be frustrating because it seemed like the typical Floyd fight. Manny didn't look like his rival out there, just like another opponent that could never get enough clean shots on him to slow him down or alter his game plan. Manny HAD to alter that game plan, HE HAD to come out and put the pressure on Floyd so that Floyd felt like he was losing the match. EVERYONE knew this going in, anyone that actually expected Floyd to come out and go for broke well that's on you I guess.
Mayweather won by his jabs and set defense and got paid what, $180 million?? Easy money without breaking a sweat. Even Manny didn't break a sweat. So we can go on and on about it being fixed but the fact of the matter is, Floyd just got away with the biggest heist in sports history. Not even ocean's 11 couldn't come up with that scenario.
