Sure, depth needs work, but I like the starters for the most part. Arian Foster is going to be really hard to replace, but it's not an issue this year and the O line is pretty young for the most part and O line depth can be had in the late rounds. I get that what the Texans have done so far lacks flash, and I'm just like anyone else, I'd prefer a flashy skill player over two solid defenders, but I think it's the smart play.
Base Watt Wilfork Crick Clowney Cushing McKinney Mercilus Joseph Moore Brown/Swearinger Jackson Johnson as the nickel.
Su'a Filo, Fiedorowicz, DeAndre Hopkins, Brennan Williams, Devier Posey, Brandon Brooks, and Ben Tate say "Hi".
I watched quite a bit of Mississippi State games and I really like McKinney, he's smart and has a knack for ending up where he needs to be in order to make plays and stop opposing offenses. He also has some blitz potential.
2012: DeVier Posey, WR, Round 3 Brandon Brooks, OL, Round 3 2013: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Round 1 Brennan Williams, OT, Round 3 2014: Xavier Su'a-Filo, OG, Round 2 C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Round 3 The Texans have consistently addressed the offensive side of the ball in early rounds over the past 3 seasons. Just because some of the picks haven't worked out doesn't mean that it's not a focus of the front office.
So Harris thinks he might be better suited for OLB, just played ILB out of necessity? [rquoter]He always looked out of place to me, playing inside linebacker with an outside linebacker build. With 33” inch arms on a 6’4”, 246 lb. frame, he seemed more of a fit as a 3-4 OLB or even a 4-3 OLB. But, he played inside for three years because that’s what Mississippi State asked him to do. Later in his career, in pass rush situations, he did rush from the edge and that versatility opens up a number of different doors going forward if he can do that. Imagine a guy that can be a three down inside linebacker at two, maybe even three, different spots. That’s utopian for a defensive coordinator and it’s got to be the conversation that teams are having currently. Where do we play this guy? Everywhere. [/rquoter]
Good organizations plan for the future with the draft. With Joseph and Cushing likely in their last year or two with the team, it is nice to have their respective replacements here. That combined with the perceived value of both picks has me pleased overall with the first two rounds.
willfork alone will eat 2 offensive line men, if cushing gets to 85% recovery, they will have a free lane to do what they do. shut you down.
