As you know we have really not been involved in the post season to any extent. Though initially pissed I can see $6 million was too much for Posey. However, I do wonder if we are desined to be one of those cheap teams that won't compete economically for players.

I was wondering how the T Wolves could get Cassel, Sprewell and Olowakandi without giving up much. Turns out they are willing to shell out $$$ to do so. McHale says why not buy free agents when they are cheap because other teams (like the Rockets apparentlly) don't want to have the luxury tax.

Are the Rockets going to become one of the have- not teams in terms of players;, while Les makes more and more profit? Makes it tough for the fans who like to have a winning team. Too bad we don't have an owner like Sacrmento, Dallas, Portland, Minnesota and perhaps other teams. Trying to maximize profit while just cashing in on a publicly funded new arena doesn't look like much graititude. Dalas, Minn, Sacramento and Portland don't really have bigger markets than we do.

Did Minny go over the cap? We are right on it so that's why we can't spend too much. I understand that reasoning. Why pay double for someone?

Les has shown that he is not afraid to spend money, but why just throw it away by paying 100% luxury tax?

Rice will be off the books next season. That's an extra $9mil, I believe.

Because those guys have a lot of baggage?

Olowakandi is a reknowned malingerer, and lazy ******* who only motivated himself in a contract drive year.

Sprewell? Calling him a cancer is an understatement. Perhaps some sort of old, crochity, ebola virus in the lockerroom

Cassell - Enormous ego, alternately complained about his contract, or pumped himself up in Milwaukee.

It's not like Minnesota went out and grabbed a bunch of great players with no baggage. All of these players have big question marks, and when you toss in Kevin Garnett's healthy ego, and Wally's unhealthy one - that is an interesting team dynamic.

There's more to the Posey thing than that. Had we matched the Grizz's offer of $6 mil a year, with the luxury that contract would have cost us about $12 mil a year. I'm sure CD looked at that and immediately thought of Moochie's contract.

I wanted them to keep Posey, but I have to agree $12 mil a year for him is WAY out of line.

As has been stated by others on more than one opportunity, is not a certainty that there will even BE luxury tax next season, Posey will not be matched because his contract * COULD * potentially bring us to luxury tax land.

Then again, it might not. Some say it's not even likely that it would, as the income is about to rise...

Les is being cheap, no lame excuse is going to cover that up.

The thing is, if there are no good players available for good bargain (very difficult), why do you trade & spend money on someone you will regret in the future? Give JVG a chance to assess the talents of this team... some players that didn't perform under Rudy might actually work well under JVG's system (e.g. Mochie, ok, I'm just kidding!)... it will be much wise to not to over spent whenever you can... it's not a issue of whether Les wants to spend over the cap... it also have to do with the issue of possible future trades... if we overpaid a player, it gets more and more difficult get rid off them in the NBA these days... Rockets should learn something from the Spurs...

I'm not kidding! I wouldn't put a bet on it but I am expecting Moochie to be the most improved Player on the Rockets Roster. Moochie has been a lazy player specializing in extended Dribbling. His performance has been subdued and discouraged by forces not easily recognizable. Under the leadership of a strong Coach [JVG] I expect Moochie to come out of his shell and tow the line obaying Van Gundys every wish. The Moochie experience will surprise many even those who are his better. He might even be our assist leader by seasons end.

so we complain that les pays people too much money and then turn around and call him cheap. hmmm. so far in the era of les being cheap, we haven't overpaid for posey. damn, what a loss.
