re: alot of people here say...

As we have seen about numerous subjects...once a fallacy is said, some around here will parrot it like it is gospel.
add that to the Chron's wrong assumption that Pike was a replacement for Posey..and this is what you get.

    It doesnt make it true.

Pike is not a starter, he started sometimes for the Clips because of injuries..the only way he plays SF is if JVG decides to play small ball for some reason..

I dont see it happening very often.

We do have Rice, Boki, and Hawkins(hopefully)..and if CD has any brains whatsoever...TMo..

and....the offseason isnt over yet..another move may be in the works...(I hope so)..

Posey's got that "Walt'ah" karma, as Tommy Heinsohn would say, that endears him to fans that truly appreciate the game....they know regardless of the stats, he's going to bust his ass to try and earn every dollar he's being paid.

It's that kind of attitude, a welcome respite from the typical character of this team, which has made his departure a disappointment, despite the fact that he was in no way, shape or form the ideal small forward the Rockets need.

In reality, you've got someone with his footspeed, or better, in Hawkins; someone with markedly better shooting, in Piatkowski or Rice; and your requisite youth gamble in Nachbar, for a smaller pricetag.

I'm sure Van Gundy sifted through the tapes, microanalyzed Posey's every move, and probably liked what he saw...but, the reality on paper was that the Rockets were no better a team with Posey than without him, and it was at that point that luxury tax and on the court concerns converged and they passed.

They shouldn't be content, but I like this move and the strategy behind it.

I'll parrot what Rileydog said: the contract sounds a little rich for Piatkowski. I don't think it'll hurt us much since we'll be at the luxury tax threshold for the next 3 years anyway, but Pike is getting more than he's worth, imo.

For whoever said Rice would be attractive to teams at the February deadline: while that's true, I'm not pretty convinced by this whole Posey-Piatkowski event that the Rockets will not consider trading Rice. They are obviously counting on losing his salary to gain some breathing room under the luxury tax to pay the likes of Francis' extension and, later, Yao's and (hoping he'll turn it around) Griffin's.

Yep. Some say out of date. Some say like fine wine. Gets better with age. But if we don't average 105 ppg with it, look out for those calling us the South Knicks.

Looks like it's Eddie at the three if nothing else happens. My lineup:
    Yao/Cato/Mo/Eddie
    Cato/Mo/Eddie
    Eddie/Rice/Pike/Boki/Hawk
    Pike/Cat/Steve/Hawk
    Steve/Mooch/Someone who never plays
But something else is going to happen.
For the record, I think this is a huge mistake. Posey was great.
The most athletic player we have had for as long as I can remember.
Like everyone elses I wanted to get a Clipper. But not this one. No Brand, no Odom, no Maggette, no Miller. Instead we end up with Mo Taylor and the Polish Rifle. I am not happy.

C'mon, Juan......$3 mill/year? compared to what they have been paying their FA's in the recent past? It's possible that he's slightly overpaid, but I consider him a bargain compared to some of our other contracts.

I dont know why people are banking on GLEN RICE. I think we all know that he is washed up and that we should not expect much from him. This Piatkowski acquisition is not gonna work either. Everyone keeps sayin he will step up and hit the open shot because of the double and triple teaming of Yao, but as I recall Yao was not doubled much during the season. I dont see the impact or the splash. Definitely not the move I wanted to see during the offseason.

It looks as though the Rockets are headed in the right direction.

That is, on their way up.

All the pieces are coming together.

Jaun, while it has been speculated for a while now that the Rockets would trade Rice's expiring contract for a good player I too have the feeling that the Rockets might just let his contract expire here to save money. It seems to fall in line with the cost cutting move of letting Posey go in favor of Pike.

I still hope the Rockets make more moves to increase the talent on the roster but not sure how quick we will be at doing it.

Posey will regret leaving H - town. I think he tought the rockets will do anything to get him but he will be buried in the grizzlies bench.

It's a good player, a good SG backup.
But won't be the last Rockets move.
I think Van Gundy don't want Rice and I don't see him like our starter SF. He will be out sure.
Rice is the only player who is out of the Rockets' proyect for the future.

tpl said it best (as usual...please post more!)...Posey was and is good, but his strengths will not play to the Rockets game plan. It was nice having an athletic forward that could run the break, but on offense we need outside shooters, and despite heating up a bit towards the end of last season, Posey did not fit that bill. I don't know if Pike will be what we need, but he is certainly much closer than Posey will be. I just hope that Yao will have improved enough defensively to make up for the drop in perimeter defense we will experience.

Super A+ pick up. This guy is a steady shooter and perfect fit for the team. He's smarter than Posey and moves better than Bullard and shoots better than them.
    just my opinion, Go Rockets!!!
