First off, whats all the comotion(sp?) about Dream? It aint like choose not to play him. First off he IS HURT!!! The DAMN media doesnt recognize that he is hurting and we are playing him. Plus, absolutly nobody would give up anything decent to trade for the big man. I say like I heard from somebody else, let him play the 40+ mins he used to and see what he says. Time will tell.

Even if Penny was at 100% right now injuries have depleted his career to the point where he is nothing more now than a jump shooting guard with know lateral movement. No lateral movement equals no defense. While his career might not be over his career as a superstar in this league is over. Not to mention the cap hit you take. Why do you think the Suns were trying to rid themselves of Penny in the first place?

    emoreland:-
that is completely insane. I would rather take my chances on FA rather than Penny Hardaway, Penny is sooo injury prone that your gonna get sick of him after just one year. Ther guy could injure his neck while turning his head to see a 3 pointer fall into the basket while on defense.
Webber will seriously consider Houston in the offseason because webbers's brother is a huge rockets fan and he's begging webber to come to houston, while he may not make the decision listening to his brother but he'll consider it an option. It all depends on how far the kings go in the playoffs. Mutambo could be a really good fit, all this guy does is rebound which is exactly what we need.

Regarding Penny's insurance policy, that 80% covered doesn't offer cap relief, just so you know. It DOES pay for 80% of his contract, but in no way does it relate to the cap.

Here are the details as posted on phxsuns.net:

Ok. The insurance policy is not a group policy offered to the NBA it is up to the teams to arrange for the type/extend of coverage they want on contract by contract basis. Obviously, there are some carriers that specialise in this area. Penny's salary insurance kicks in after 41 straight games missed (not 45 as I said earlier). Even if he misses ever single game from now untill the end of his contract the suns are still going to get the full hit cap wise. This is also true if he retires but continues to get paid for the remainder of this contract via insurance or otherwise. The thing a team can do in that situation is file an appeal in order to get cap space but the amount as a percentage of the salary is not guaranteed. Chapman is a good example of this situation in play, he went on the injured list and stayed there for over 40 games then announced that he would retire, the suns then decided to fulfill the full term of the contract (i think it goes through 2002). In order to get cap relief for Chapman we had to file an appeal and it won't kick into full relief untill after next season.

I'm a HUGE Suns fan, but if you were wanting to trade for Penny in hopes of getting cap relief via insurance, it won't happen.

BTW- I was all for Penny last year, but in hindsight it looks as if ORL got the better of the deal. They got 2(?) firsts, a player that works very well off the bench for them (Garrity), and a player that allowed thm to trade for depth (Manning). We got an IL filler....

    Don't be fooled....
