This cracked me up. I'm not sure what nationality you are, but I read these in a comedian's angry Russian imitation.

ITT: people erroneously equating good record with good coaching.

We have the MVP on our roster. A lebronesque player who will elevate any team.

-remember last year when we got bounced?
    -lebron and mike brown?
-how about Byron Scott and cp3?
    -Scot brook and okc?

Look at his join date, and EVERY one of his posts has been Mchale bashing. Not too hard to imagine where this hate is coming from.

    Matter what the seed is?

You play all season long to get into the playoffs. Not sure it matters in the West. Nice to have home court. It's so competitive. Dallas will be a tough out. Rick is a great coach. Everyone you play is really good. Look at the teams that won over 50 games in the West. Glad the guys were rewarded, getting the 2nd seed and winning the division. They played hard. A lot of different injuries. One constant: they battled every night. All that feel good goes away quickly though.

6th in defensive efficiency. Are you where you need to be to go on a long run?

It may be 6th but felt like 26th. Defense in our league, you gotta come out every night and be solid. Guys make tough shots. We lost in Toronto and they had guys makings shots you can't guard. Great offenses will always beat great defenses. We have to get better defensively. Our first shot defense was good this year but we were giving up 2nd and 3rd shots. We have to improve. We got better but that being said, they don't keep stops on the scoreboard. It's both sides of the ball. Bickerstaff did a great job. I like the way we defend most nights. When a special player gets hot, nothing you can do. Actually, it's fun to watch when you're sitting there. It's about your offense and defense. We have to be solid.

    Where is Dwight at?

He's getting better all the time. Unless you're playing NBA basketball, it's hard to get a rhythm. The speed and size and how the defense plays, you have to get time under your belt. Last night was the first time I thought Dwight played at the bouncy level(?). For Dwight, he's getting close. He'll be as good as he can for us. He's getting closer to the Dwight Howard we need to be successful.

Pierce: This generation's players don't have the thirst to be great. -- Do you see that?

It's different. They do want to be great. Their approach is different. How they were coached growing up is different with AAU. A lot have gone to 3 different high schools. The coach yells at them and they go to a new high school the next year. You gotta spend time with them. They all want it. I don't know if they know what it takes sometimes. The teacher that teaches the most is failure. It humbles you. Deep down, they want to be great. Our generation, there was a burning desire to be good. It's different. They were more coddled and how they were brought up. It's in there. You gotta figure out different ways to light the fire for each guy. Before, you could walk in and curse the room out. Now you have to individually go in and ask how are you doing. There's more of that. That's just the truth. You gotta get them over to your side and all on the same page. It's different. I do believe, deep down, guys want to win. Deep down, they want to be really good. It's how they get there and how that fire burns.

except outside of one season in minnesota where he took over a horrible horrible team McHale coached teams have always been over .500 - -even then he finished with a better poor winning percentage than the guy he took over for that season.

his first season coaching he took over a wolves team that went 25-26 under flip saunders and he lead them to a 19-12 record over the remaining 31 games.

The winning percentage of the Houston Rockets has improved every season since he started coaching. This despite the massive amount of turnover in the roster year in and out. Getting Harden in his second year helped - but no one believed him to become the player he was. Getting Dwight helped moreso -- but these are the good moves the front office does he deals with just as all the bad the front office does (massive roster turnover) is something he has to deal with. Put it this way when McHale became the coach 4 years ago for the Rockets - not a single player remains on the team from his first year coaching the Rockets today. Not one player. A lot of coaches could go through that sort of change of course - but there are a small handful that could go through that and still keep winning in the West.

All of the guys you mentioned were able to have their guys develop together and build chemistry with each other over the years which is what McHale hasnt had the luxury of doign with his guys. Maybe it was supposed to happen this year but injuries derailed that.

Kerr helped the warriors but they had 4 years of stability and growth under Mark Jackson - chances are they were going to be a great team this year anyway regardless of who was coaching them. The are a great defensive team which is what Mark Jackson instilled over his 4 seasons there despite everyone hating on him from stopping the Warriors from being run-n-gun. Kerr reaped the benefits of that plus amazing luck in having the team healthy. Maybe with Kerr they win an extra 4-5 games compared to if they kept Mark Jackson - but thats still a 60 win team.

I don't believe McHale is the best coach out there of course - he isnt even the best coach in this series -- but he is by no means a bad coach. His record and ability to adapt shows that. Last year the biggest blow to the team was not replacing Kelvin Sampson when he left midway through the season - the coaching staff was understaffed. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise too for McHale to realize that. Right now the only coaches I would love to have instead of McHale:

    Pop, Carlisle, Bud, Vogel, Thibs,

thats 5 guys I would take in a heartbeat - there are others I feel is a wash like Rivers, Spolestra etc. (i think Rivers is super overrated personally)
