In you opinion which works better in a work environment
    NOT WHICH ONE YOU PREFER
    Which Works better

Fear - as in fear of loosing your job
    vs
Enjoyment - thoroughtly enjoying your job

I've notice in some spots FEAR works
The people hate their jobs but they are FAR more productive
than in jobs where they just enjoyed them and relaxed a bit

I've notice in others Enjoyment is key

I have not qualifier on which jobs these work for
    but maybe you might

    I guess the question is
    NEGATIVE REENFORCEMENT
    vs
    POSITIVE REENFORCEMENT

Without a doubt, it seems that positive reinforcement has worked best in my job experiences. Personally, it motivates me, and when I enjoy my job I do better work. Negative reinforcement creates fear and distracts employees from doing the best job they can.

I think pleasure improves efficiency and fear increases time at work. You could always fear losing a job you love.

The Athenian Thesis- All men are moved by fear, honor, or profit. Don't know if that is right. I'd add love but maybe some people think that is profit.

in my experience working with kids, positive reinforcement and a positive attitude works most of the time. the less I yell at the kids, the more they listen to me. if i speak in a quiet vioce, they all get quiet to hear me, on the other hand, if i am yelling at them, they tune me out.

if i have snacks in my hand, then they REALLY pay attention.

Fear (negative reinforcement) will only motivate you just enough to NOT lose your job [Office Space ;) ]

But Pleasure (positive reinforcement) will give the worker confidence to do better and reach their goals. Don't confuse pleasure with complacency.

I think each stimulus can work well in certain situations and each person reacts differently to each of those stimuluses.

But as a WHOLE I believe in positive reinforcement. If a person likes their job and takes pride in their job they will do well.

Damn, negative reinforcement hasn't gotten a single vote!

I think the real trick is doing either one correctly. Fear can motivate people to do a thing, but it may not be the thing you want them to be doing. The same is true of positive reinforcement -- it's possible to love your job in ways that won't make you produce.

it costs too much to train new employees...too much down time doing that. better to instill a positive work environment where people see work as fun on some level. if your employees believe you're honest (particularly in my field of work) and you treat them well, they will bend over backwards to help you reach the goals you set for them. the big thing is creating a team atmosphere...that we're all working for the same goals and everyone is integral in reaching those goals. self-worth can be derived from that...and motivation. so you're not building jobs for people...you're building careers.

    I agree ..

Fear will motivate one to achieve a minimum standard, enough not to get punished.

Rewards can motivate one to execced minimum stantards. The more the achievement the greater the awards.

I think both components are generally recognized as essential to influence human actions; hence the old axiom of the carrot and the stick and the nearly universal religious concept of heaven and hell.

So on lower level Jobs i.e. Mickey D's or something like that
they let u know . .YOU CAN EASILY be replaced
you think a more positive reenforcement will make better burgers
    at a faster clip?

Depends on the environment. In the Corps, negative always works because the military needs to be consequence driven ("If I don't charge that hill, Sarge is going to shoot me himself.") to accomplish its goals. At a newspaper or any other corporate environment, a combination of 80 percent positive and 20 percent negative work fine for me.
