Of course it matters. If I could either pick at #14 or #19, I'd pick at #14.

Not at all. If MOREY really wants to move up in draft they he can package 1st and 2nd rd picks along with Tjones.

I agree. The 2nd seed guarantees the Mavs in Round 1 and home court through the first 2 rounds. The 14th pick means maybe a better player in the draft, but it's not like Morey always nails those. I'll take the sure thing.

Agreed the Pelicans can make the Warriors a run for their money...maybe not beat them but it will be interesting and watch that series

The pick is a trade chip...would it be nice for it to be 14 instead of 18?
    Yes.

Can we do anything about it?

    No.

    Care factor at the moment?

    0.

Secretly I've thought the following all season: I'd rather New Orleans make the playoffs just to pile on the Thunder's crappy season and prod them to break up.

There is a 0% chance it is the #15 pick. There is essentially a 1.8% (because there is 0% chance the Pels make the Finals, IMO) chance it isn't conveyed.

Of course I want the best pick for the Rockets and thus I don't want the Pels to make the playoffs. I don't care at all about whether OKC or NOP makes the playoffs for anything other than the pick. I care about the Rockets and the Rockets only.

THIS. And I would rather see the Warriors challenged in the first round instead of having a scrimmage.

No I don't care. 14th or 18th will likely be a bench player that never plays for Mchale.

Real question. Do you package dmo or to jones with that pick for a 5th pick?

So, you don't care, but you wonder about trades involving it? The 14th or 18th/19th pick will absolutely matter to teams in trades.

I don't think OKC or the Thunder is beating the Warriors, so I'd rather the higher draft pick.

Ofcourse it matters, anyone saying it doesn't matter is either dumb or not thinking clearly. It matters if you pick 14th or a couple of places lower. Ask the philidephia 76ers whether one pick lower mattered in the 1997 draft. Or us in 2006 (and we are not talking about 1 pick lower but about a couple of picks).

Don't care about NOP vs OKC, would rather have the 14th pick

Hell yes it matters in the grand scheme.

This might be the last time in the Harden era to add lottery level talent to this roster. Its so underrated how important it is to add talent to a roster with core veterans established.

    Especially this Summer when -

-Terry could retire & is on his last legs
    -Prigioni will be 38
-Josh Smith will probably get a bigger offer
-Brewer will probably get a bigger offer
    -D-Mo & Dwight's health is questionable
-Beverley is restricted and you might not want him back on a larger deal

You just aren't going to have the means to shell out big bucks in free agency. You gotta score on reloading with picks like this. Even if they aren't superstars, you can get good solid young players at 14. 18 or 19 is way harder to predict, and there is usually larger drop in being able to evaluate more sure bets.

The win last night was huge, but OKC winning out, and NOLA losing will be huge if we are lucky enough for it to happen.

So yeah it doesn't mean anything to the Rockets playoff run this month, but for the sake of SUSTAINED SUCCESS it absolutely matters.

    This exactly.

Just because they are the last team in, in the West doesn't mean their pick automatically falls from 14 (late lottery) to 15 (just outside the lottery)... the East has hella weak teams with much worse records, to the pick takes a drastic fall once they make the playoffs.

But again, we have worries higher on the totem than this pick.
