I've been on the prigs wagon for awhile. Even though his shooting has been off, his understanding of how to run the offense and put people in position to succeed is something beverly struggled with. He knows when to feed the post and more importantly when to give it back on a repost. In the playoffs I think everyone will really see the value of his veteran, low risk play.
Morey made an attempt to get Dragic. it was said that the Suns were actually second guessing taking the Miami trade over Houstons offer that included T Jones. The Rockets are extremely weak at the point guard. it is down to Terry and Prigioni with some James Harden. But the good thing is that Prigioni and Terry though NBA old players are still plus type guys. it is when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. It seems like a tough obstacle to climb in the playoffs. Going without an elite point guard, but Rockets have been doing well so far without one.
I find it hard to appreciate him due to his terrible shooting. He's so frustrating to watch. And what's even worse is that he's missing all these shots when he's WIDE OPEN. Off the pick n roll, he also needs to at least look for the lob or his own runner shot. He either likes to make the safe bounce pass or kick it out behind the 3 point line for a bail out pass.
Disagree. He hesitates way too much and I think that's why his shot has been off. He needs to take his open threes without hesitation or it throws the whole flow of the offense off. You can see the other players get confused or out of position when they expect him to take a wide open three and he passes it instead.
As long as they can control turnovers and make shots, we will be okay. Our front-court (strength) is there to help with covering up defensive mistakes and them losing position. Off the top of my head, CP3 and Deandre/Blake come to mind as a duo that could take full advantage by making us pay when using defensive help on CP3 who will just throw up a lob as soon as LA's big guys have airspace. This won't matter in the 4th quarter as we will likely roll out Harden Brewer (guarding PG) Ariza (guarding PG) Jones/D-Mo Howard TLDR : PG's just gotta make their shots and limit TOs to be +
One thing I've noticed about Prigioni is that he seems to be a very good positional defender. He usually funnels the player he's defending to the right spots on the floor and even tells (points) his teammates where he's pushing them. I've seen this turn into great team defense and turn overs.
I like the experience that Prigioni brings, along with the limited turn overs...but every time he shoots, I die a little inside.
I see what we were aiming for when we got him. But he sucks at shooting 3's and will get his azz handed to him playing against just about any pg we face in the playoffs. So when he misses a crucial 3, or gets torched on defense, we'll see if the same hatred you guys had towards Bev is shown towards Prigs. You guys ragged on Bev all season for his slump but somehow have forgiven Prigs throwin brick after brick.
He is a reluctant shooter and with Houston the way they play he is force to take more 3 pointers so is an adjustment he need to make and don't second guess it, let it fly. Shooters don't care if they are 0-3 they will shoot like they haven't miss, when he miss one is like he doesn't want to take another, just let it fly with confidence if is part of the offense, and the percentage will take over.
I think the reality is that it takes a 37 year old a little longer to get in game shape. I don't think he was in game shape when he got here. The good news is it's unlikely he'll shoot this poorly forever. I think once he gets enough minutes and shakes off all the rust, he'll be hitting 38% for us from 3 pt range. Maybe a secret weapon come playoff time. A good who's been that good a shooter for that long is bound to bounce back.
Bev only brought shooting and defense. During his slump he struggled at both which basically rendered him useless. Prig adds value even without his shot. He does things that Bev never could do well. So it makes sense why people are more willing to be forgiving of Prigs shooting based on that alone. There's also the hope that given his shooting %'s over his career he might find his shot in time for the playoffs, and then he'll be exactly all we need out of a PG for this team.
I agree with this When he passes the shot .. . EVERYONE has to reset to the next play If it happens late in the shot clock . .. . we usually end up with a Heave by someone Rocket River
Pure point guard in the sense of the term. Defensive liability, inconsistent shot.. but he is such a smart player and rarely make gambles or mistakes.
I love Prig's point guard play i.e.. ball handling/entry passes/P&R passes. He's great at assisting for good shots Just wish his shot would come around. I looked when we brought him on board and his career 3PT% was .414 He's probably shot 25% for us so far. If he can get his shot back, he'll be a terrific PG In the meantime, he's still good
He is a bankrupted version of Rondo... He has to have the ball in his hand to be effective, he can't go spot up because he can't shoot. His shot is scary at best and when he pauses to shoot it creates havoc. He should only play against the backup point and that will be a disadvantage as well since he's so slow on defense.
i thought he shot the ball pretty well against dallas when he just rose up and shot it. not sure why he reverted to not shooting against thunder.
