Most if not all of the politicians in whom I have any interest have yet to put themselves forth for the Presidency, among them Powell and potentially Clark. Another who has repeatedly impressed me on a personal level is Senator Joe Biden. I have seen him interviewed several times, and even when I disagreed with what he had to say I have come away impressed. He seems intelligent, self-possesed, a stright-shooter ( for a politician) and has actual opinions as opposed to avoiding them. What do you guys, on both sides of the fence, think of him? And could some of you fill in the blanks for me in terms of Biden's record, career, and stances on key issues? Is he at all considered someone who, if he threw his name in the ring, would be a serious candidate, or is it just me? Thanks very much.
Didn't he have brain surgery in the past? Was it something that may affect his ability to convince the American public that there are no lingering affects? If I remember correctly, prior to that surgery he was a real "up and comer". Also, he had a plagiarizing issue. Compared to problems of current and former presidents, it's probably just a drop in the bucket, but it could affect him as well.
for a Canadian, you sure have an interest in who we Americans we'll be voting for! wish i could be reciprocal, but i haven't the first clue of canadian politics!
Macbeth, what made you think of Biden? It seems strange that you would even notice and or remember him. He has run before and not really gotten anywhere. He is a pleasant looking fellow and is well spoken. A middle of the road guy who supported the Iraq war without a whole lot of quibbling as I remember. Hasn't really stood out for much as far as I can remember except running in a few primaries and a long time ago he was a major player in the Clarence Trhomas/ Anita Hill hearings.
Biden recently criticized the DEA for threatening the Eagle Lodge in Billings, Montana (http://www.stopthedrugwar.org/chronicle/290/dearave.shtml) for having the audacity to hold a medical mar1juana rally. Because of his statements, the DEA has since adopted "guidelines and policies" regarding the use of the RAVE act.
Whenever I say 'y'all' I get strange looks, so this is my best effort at trying to blend in with...er...all of you.
that's funny! When I was in Boston, the old man I sat next to at the Red Sox game said, "You're from Texas? You don't have an accent at all! You don't even say ya'll!" I think I disappointed him.
Have seen him a lot on interview shows recently, and he really struck me as level headed, reasonably non-partisan, bright, etc. His stance on the war surprises me, a little, but I don't get the impression that it's a matter of being for it, as opposed to wanting to do it for the right reasons and do it right if we're gonna do it. He also maintained all along that the intle was being given to the public in an inflamatory and innacurate way, simply to prop up support for the war. What was his role in the Hll/Thomas thing again? Memory fails...
Well it would me as well. Remember if we ever meet to live up to all my preconceptions about a conservative lawyer from Texas...in other words, when the bill comes, say " Dang it all, would y'all look at that over there? Goldurned pinko!" and when I turn to look, cut out on the cheque...as quietly as your boots will allow.
I haven't worn cowboy boots since Go Texan Day in 3rd grade. I'm afraid I would be quite disappointing. Of course...I don't spell check with a "q", either! commie!
They make cowboy boots that small? Lot of call for 5 year old ranch hands, is there? I saw the kids with Wayne in the Cowboys, but I coulda swore that the youngest was at least 10... Any pre-conceptions I ought to be aware of? I don't wear toques, for example...generally keep my tree hugging for those quiet moments when I'm alone on weekends between rallies and protests...My cardigans are all in the wash, I can't recall saying 'eh' this week, and my accent sounds exactly like most everyone on television.
