Interesting...Morey said Jones might be our 3rd best player and referred to him as a 2 way player saying he is obviously skilled offensively, but is also an improved defensive player. Obviously skilled offensively lol. Not obvious to a handful of people here though for whatever reason, but what does Morey know about basketball? Analytic guys just make up things so that they can get into the game because they couldn't actually play it and didn't get the girls.

Sure, pal. However you want to rationalize it is fine with me.

If it truly "pains you" because other human beings are marginalized and objectified by the evil GM Daryl Morey, then don't follow sports. His great failing in your eyes is not unique to the Rockets.

He's attends the home games on a regular basis, why don't you walk up to him and tell him personally! While your there, share some of you basketball knowledge with him, I'm sure he'd get a kick out of that as well!...

Good to hear Harden and Howard want to beat the Mavs as badly as the fans want them to.

No doubt, I fell like he is very disinterested to talk with 790 in their morning show as comparing to other interviews with ESPN radio, Jim Rome and even 610.

790 is pathetic handling the Rockets talks and I won't be surprised to see the Rox pull the plug after their contract ends, especially now that CSN already dead.

Daryl Morey is scheduled to be on ESPN Radio Dallas today at 4:30 before tonight's game. They will be "discussing" the rift with Mark Cuban. Should be good for a few laughs. You can listen in here: http://tunein.com/radio/ESPN-Dallas-1033-s32513/

Why tell us, tell him. DM the GM is available at games, thru twitter; the man is kinda ubiquitous. Your input would be respected for the value on offer.

The funny thing about Jones is a lot of people don't mention how intelligent he is offensively. He might not be the most skilled post player/shooter but he makes very good cuts, finishes well in traffic and moves well without the ball.

Very true. It's rare that you see TJones make a mistake that costs us an offensive possession. His only downside on offense is his hesitation to shoot. There are several times he's left wide open from 3 (best shot in basketball) and he still doesn't pull the trigger. Most of the time an offense only gets 1 quality shot per possession, so when he passes on the open 3, there's a good chance we aren't getting a better shot.

The same is true of DMo. When they run that top of the key handoff with DMo and Harden/Terry/Brewer/etc., DMo is almost always left wide open from 3. He doesn't even look at the rim. If they ever fake that handoff and DMo can hit the shot, that would add an entirely new element to the offense.

This is something I've noticed, too. It seems when they broke into the rotation, Donatas and TJ would regularly take threes when they were open, but didn't hit them consistently enough. I think it's likely the coaching staff told them to dial it back a bit and play to their strengths inside, which I think has worked out well for both of them.

However, you make a good point. I think they're both hovering around the threshold of what makes a good three-point shooter, and to have two big men (one a seven-footer, no less) be able to knock down that shot with consistency would add a whole dimension not only to their games, but to the offense in general.

Imagine the pick-n-roll nightmares with Harden and Donatas or TJ if they can hit outside shots, especially threes. They could draw their defender - likely a big man - out of the lane, since he would be wary of leaving them alone. Harden would have other defenders scrambling to switch onto him, opening up even more possibilities for driving or kicking out.

If Terrence is our 3rd best player in the playoffs we won't win a championship. Ariza or Donuts has to be our 3rd best player for this roster to win a championship. Morey knows it too.

Our 3rd best player needs to be Ariza, Jones, DMo, Brewer and Smith.

They all have to play close to the 3rd best player level on a relatively consistent basis in the playoffs. Two of the five need to be at that 3rd best player on any given night.

This will be about quality outside of Harden/Howard and defense.

I have no idea how you can say that so definitively. You always speak in absolutes and purport to know what other people think. I won't say anything further on that because overall, you don't really bother me as much as you seem to a large amount of the other people who post here. Things would probably be much more boring around here without you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a strong opinion and sticking by it even if it isn't the popular one. I respect that, but when you claim to know the inner machinations of other people such as Daryl Morey and say things contradictory to what we actually hear these people say publicly, it kind of paints you in a negative light to be honest with you. If he were able to put up 15, 9 and 2 blocks, I'd say that would be plenty good enough for a 3rd wheel.

Honestly I don't care who our 3rd or 4th best player is. James Harden and Dwight Howard need to both be stars this playoffs or nothing else is going to really matter. Everything around them will fall in line if they can do what we need them to do. In reality, our 3rd best player will probably be somebody different almost every game. Role players...

I honestly don't care who our 3rd best player is either. But I do know the characteristics of that player. That player has to be the third (and perhaps second) primary SCORING option on this team and a player that provides space for Harden and Dwight to maximize their pick and roll action. Ariza has to step up and bang down so many 3's that they can't leave him or we've got to be able to go to DMO to create a high quality look in the post or step out and bang down the 3's. If we're talking about Terrence or Josh Smith or Brewer or anybody else on the bench brigade as our 3rd best player after the post-season it will be because we lost and Ariza and/or DMo were not the clear 3rd best player on this roster.
