i was thinking about how much we needed to add a player or two and get rid of another two or three. i know that we are gonna hold of on trades and FA's right now since we are trying to re-sign posey. once posey is inked we will go after other FA's.

we were in the running for 4 FA's so far this summer. those were:

    ollie, daniels, newble, and pike.

i realized that every time i read that "so and so is talking to/interested in the rockets..." it was allways followed by "...and the cavs."

my question was allways why??? how did we get put into the same category as the cavs? or at least as far as 3rd tier FA's go. aren't we head over heals better than cleveland? if you could sign with us for a little less money wouldn't you do it?

then i realized that we aren't that much better than them right now. look at the rosters:

    yao-ziggy*
    ?steve-lebron?
    cat-davis*
    *griff-miles
    posey-jones (Even)
    mooch-wagner*
    mo-boozer*
    *cato-mihm
    JVG- silas (Even)

*- had a better statistical season.
the only difference is we have rice, and they now have ollie.

overall it looks pretty even to me, if you take rice over ollie.

so how are we supposed to win almost 50 games this season with our current team?

We are seven units better than the cavs. I consulted a basketball scientist and he has informed me of this. He claims the units are baskitalmeters.

Sure, Ziggy had better stats, but no way did he have as much an impact in the game as did Yao. Lebron- Francis, Lebron hasnt played a game in the NBA yet and ur already sayin he may be as good as francise? No way, maybe he will prove me wrong, but rite now Francise all the way, And then you compare coaches, but i give it to JVG because he has a distinct way of coaching. I may be wrong about this one but thts my point of view.........

the Lakers were reported to have interest in Pike, we did to, so i guess that means were on the same level as the Lakers. Woot!

Does anyone have a strange feeling like the Cav's are the new Clippers?

Last year the Clipps brought in Andre to help run their offense. Even though he was the so called "proclaimed" saviour (at the time) he failed to do anything for that team.

Lebron seems to fit the same role. He is going on a team that has a load of talent and a load of egos. (see Davis...) Who here honestly thinks that Ziggy, Davis, Wagner, and James are going to be able to share the ball without killing each other. I just see a simliar situation for the Cavs as there was for the Clippers.

Anyway, if they have equal talent, they are still going to have to wait a few years to mature (assuming that the same holds true in the East, although with the Rockets record they would have made the playoffs in the East.)

first off, you can't just compare players individually and determine which TEAM is better. the cavs have a very young squad who practically just met each other. yes they look pretty good on paper(atleast for the east) but i wouldn't be surprised at all if they still missed the playoffs. in that conference we'd cruise in with a high seed to boot.

and as good as lebron maybe or already is, it's very unfair to steve, a legit nba star, to say that they are even. at this point it's pretty lopsided in our favor.

We are both trying to find the same type of guys because both teams are young. We need veterans. They need veterans. And I believe the Cavs have more money than us. Where would you rather live? Cleveland or Houston? It doesn't matter! Whichever city you get more money in! We weren't gonna get Ollie for 3 million. But that's okay.

Anyways...you know the Cavs beat us, right? That's pretty sad.

Lebron James has not proven anything against anybody! He's pretty good...but I think Posey can defend him. And Francis is way better than him.
Mobley is way better and much smarter and classier than Ricky Davis.
Yao is much better and more valuable and useful and efficient that Big Z although I do like Big Z. He actually did pretty good against Yao.
And yeah...Wagner is definitely better than Moochie. Wagner played great against the Rockets in Cleveland.
Mo Taylor is more experienced and offensively talented than Carlos Boozer...although I would like to have Boozer on the Rockets.
    Cato owns Chris Mihm!

Their team has too many players at similar positions. They are inexperienced and have not played long together. They will become a good team though...

That's why the Rockets need to start playing with maturity and consistency and determination and desire!!!!

The players are going to the highest bidder. Ollie went to Cleveland for 15 million. There was no way we were going to offer that much.

Although I hate to admit it and would love for him to prove me wrong, I think Miles and Eddie are about EVEN.

I think the CAVS will be solid...They've made some nice pick-ups over the past couple years.

The Cavs were the worst team in the league last year, a pretty impressive feat considering they play in the eastern conference.

The rox were 9th in the ultra loaded west.

    That's where the comparison ends.

Perhaps but they are similar teams if you look at the makeup of their rosters. Both teams need basically the same thing - veteran leadership, better coaching and a higher level of play. Both teams have a big hill to climb to get into contending status in their respective conferences.

The only difference is that the Cavs had the crash and burn season last year that the Rockets had 2 years ago while the Rockets need to show demonstrable improvement in their level of play in the West. Cleveland can't help but be better next season.

What the cavs have is the best backcourt in the league. Lebron and Wagner are PERFECT compliments.

However, a frontcourt of Yao, Mo, Posey is better than Ziggy, Boozer, and Miles. Our bench kicks their ass too:

    Cato
    Griffin
    Rice
    Boki
    Moochie

    vs

    Pike
    Newble
    Diop
    Ricky Davis
    Ollie

You just can't compare. In the future, they may be as good, but right now, Mobley and Steve would salivate at the prospect of playing them, and would have them for lunch.

I think it's about time Mo taylor got his image back. Last year was Mo's injury comeback season. Just watch him this next season, and we'll know who the real Mo is. Remember after his first season, when he got into supreme shape, only to hurt his leg? Last year, he showed EVERYTHING we thought he couldn't do: Post game, power, and effort. he did it all. I think that once he becomes lighter on his feet,w e'll be more satisfied with our PF duo, especially with Griff putting on lbs.

    The Cavs got Lebron.

    Well Whoop-Dee-Doo!

We need to worry about the Western teams, not the Eastern.

    Not really.

This is gonna be a team focused around a 7-6 center, complemented by a talented guard.

The Cavs will be led by Lebron. and a slew of other perimeter players who may or may not fit in in the final analysis (Miles, Wagner, Davis). Up front they have a guy who's left even more to be desired than Griffin (Diop), a guy who didn't live up to expectations (Mihm), a guy who performed well for a 2nd round rookie (Boozer), and a big man with the kiss of death- foot problems.

These teams will play completely differently, and it's not going to be just because of the coaches.

Assume Kobe plays next year, Payton/Kobe destroy Lebron/Wagner any day of the year.

Maybe this season, but how long will that last?

Once Wagner and Lebron get their rookie seasons out of the way, they'll be tops.

Right now, even Francis/Mobley can take those guys. I'm talking about once these guys find their games. If Lebron becomes half of what they say he'll be, then he'll play Kobe straight up. Can Payton handle Wagner in 2 seasons? I really doubt it.

There's no comparison between Rox and Cavs: they still have a useless stiff C who sees no playing time (Mihm) while we got rid of ours (Collier). Advantage Rox!:D :D

CriscoKidd hit the nail on the head. You're comparing stats from an eastern conference team to a western conference team.

You know the Rockets would have scored more and rebounded better if they played Miami, Cleveland, Toronto, Milwaukee, Washington and Atlanta four times a season as opposed to two times. Plus, the Rockets are playing physical, strong rebounding teams like the Kings, Lakers, etc., etc. four times instead of two. You get the idea.

You remember a couple years ago that the Rockets swept every team from the East's Central Division? I bet they had good stats in those games. Imagine if they had played each of those teams two more times that year. The Rockets would have been the ultimate team for you fantasy basketball players.

So, if the Rockets are comparable to the Cavs by their stats, then they're probably far better in terms of everything.

Cavs and the Rockets are two of the better up and coming teams in the league. But right now there is no conest, their star is a 18 year old kid fresh out of high school, he needs time. Both Wags and DMiles are both young too. The Rockets right now are led my Francis, whom is entering his prime, and one of the most fundemental players in the game in Yao Ming. Maybe in a few years there will be a comparsion but right now the Rockets will finish with a better record than the cavs, bet that.
