For those who know about weight loss and that kind of stuff, I'm looking for the best diet pill out there. I want to lose about 25lbs, and I want do to it within 3 months. I know about all the side-effects, but I'm willing to deal with anything aside from things that would affect sex life. I'm almost completely unable to diet, if that information is meaningful at all to you. However, I exercise regularly. I play soccer or basketball at least twice a week (1.5 hours each time), and I'm willing to throw in one more workout. Basically, I'll put in the exercise, but I can't do the diet thing. I figure, if I can diet and I exercise, then what's the pill for? I'm telling you this stuff so that it might point to a specific product, not just so you say "what a fat b*stard", lol. I'd really appreciate it if you'd give me some names of pills or medicine, whatever, that can help me out. I'd also appreciate any extra advice you can give me.
I know nothing about these pills from a scientific standpoint. However, a girl whom I work with said she has tried several of them and they all had bad side effects (nervousness, jitters, sleeping problems, etc.). She said that she tried Herbalife (sp?) and that it had no side effects for her. I could stand to lose about 15 pounds. I'd be interested to see what people come up with. I am trying to watch what I eat and exercise some, or at least increase my daily movement (which actually really helps...I'm a receptionist for the summer, so I don't have the ability to just get up and walk around the office for a few minutes whenever I want).
DO NOT try Xenadrine. My sister lost about 40lbs quick taking those but after about 1 year on them she started having rabid heart beats and chest pains, and she would have these episodes where her words would start slurring and she said she felt like whe was going to pass out. At one pont she said she thought she was actually going to die. Avoid this and other diet pills like these at all costs.
Many of the nonherbal pills contain ephedra. The chemical that has killed many athletes trying to lose weight fast (causes increases heart rate). The symptoms described so far sound like people who took diet pills with the chemical in it. Be careful and try exercise instead of quick-fix solutions.
Exercise is something I do very often. I'm fat, but I'm fit. I can run like a stallion for an hour and a half. The problem is, I eat like a pig. Tell me more about Atkins? DaDa, have you used it yourself? How much weight did you lose? THESE side effects are fine with me. I'm at a point where I've had too many injuries, and my joints are very weak. If I push myself any harder, I'll breakd own and I know it. I need to drop this weight, my body's just not used to it. I'll definitely slash Xenadrine off my list.
Atkins is a diet. I'm trying for something different. I want a pill. I've heard about these pills that block carbohydrates from your body, which is basically how the Atkins diet works. Does anyone know if that's too dangerous or whatever?
zantrex without ephedra (sold at smoothie king) had a $$ back guarantee. When I worked at smoothie king we sold a lot of these. also, taraxatone is a excess water remover. It helps you shed water weight. Im taking it, and I don't have any side effects. You do, however, have to drink lots of water though.
I had a roommate who's hobby was body building. Whenever he needed to lost weight, he went to an Atkin's type protein diet. He used ECA stack based supplements (ephedrine/caffeine/aspirin, I think he used Ripped Fuel) for a while, and said it was very effective, but had some side effects. He was always nervous and jumpy, and said he could feel his heart beat faster and louder. When I was returning to our apt one time at night while he was leaving, we came around the same corner and startled each other. He freaked out and ran all the way back to our apartment.
If you really want some guidance - you should but a book by Susan Kleiner called Power Eating. I am a competitive boxer and have played numerous sports in local mens leagues over the years and this book always gets me back on track. I have had a bit of a weight problem whenever I get into heavy drinking (I am English) but this book sets good guidelines on how to eat right to get back in shape. If you are going to get serious about losing weight I would concentrate so much on pills but on the gym. If you really want a pill that will work - adderall for ADD or ADHD is great, they also sometimes prescribe it to overweight adults who are looking for a sure fix. Adderall will increase your metabolism and decrease your appetite.
LeGrouper, you mention this book in every fitness thread. I'm going to look for it and buy it asap. Clearly you have extensive knowledge in this area judging from your other posts. Not to derail the thread, but I have a question. I'm doing a soft version of the Atkins diet and having success. I'm also drinking A LOT of water. Probably a good gallon a day. I drink it slowly throughout the day and I never "chug" it. How do I get rid of the bloated feeling I get from drinking all this water? Any supps I can take? EDIT: BTW, this question if for anyone who may know, not just LeGrouper.
There are bad side effects to the Atkins diet as well. I think one of them is either liver or kidney problems (I guess I should read the Atkins diet thread!). Anyway, Dr. Atkins swore that this was not a problem but he actually had liver or kidney problems from the diet himself (whichever one it was). It's a good idea to limit your carbs, and try to steer towards the better ones (like wheat and whole grains). However, it's also a good thing to balance what you eat. Totally eliminating an entire food group is never a good thing. It's always better to be overweight and physically fit than super thin and not. No matter what your weight is, exercise is never bad.
Princess, You are wrong, you really should not fall for hype, and do the research. Atkins is a proven method, and it is good for the body chemistry. Atkins slipped on ice and hit his head and that is how he died. His diet is more a life switch then a diet, you really are just learning how many carbs your metabolism can handle and adjusting your eating accordingly. You don't have to give up anything, but you need to learn moderation. Fat is not where it is at... DD
I think she was referring to an ailment that afflicted him and not how he died. As for carbs...it's not good to eliminate them entirely, but use them in moderation. The RDA (300-whatever units) is a bit high; 200-250 is better, at a max, or so I've found. But, I think you both were trying to get at that same point - carbs are something to use in moderation.
I have used both Xenadrine and Ripped Fuel to accelarate weight loss. Obviously there are some risks. But they worked for me. If you have high blood pressure don't take these pills because they DO accelerate your resting heart rate to increase your metabolism to burn the fat. I had great success with both. I found Ripped Fuel to be more "potent" than Xenadrine so I would probably stick with Xenadrine. But both worked ok. I feel that these pills are best served for a quick weightloss method but are not good for "lifestyle" changes. If you take these pills for a month and then change your eating habits to reduce the amount of carbs you take in then you will be set. Again, the Pills are more for quick weight loss. They do the hard work of melting off the weight quickly with minimal effort. It will NOT keep the weight off forever however! That is where the lifestyle change comes in. FYI, if you can do the Atkins diet I would recommend doing that first as it has less risks.
And do you have any arguments to back up ur statement or are you just trusting all the rumors you hear?("OMG!like,me friend was soooo addicted to pills she like, you know, ate a whole tablet!OMG! ) ALA
So you want to lose weight but you dont want to work at it and your willing to risk your health to achieve your goal? Sounds like a perfect plan
Funny that you post something like that right after telling Princess not to believe the hype. At best the body chemestry thing is highly contested...it is nowhere near as absolute as you are painting it. Keep in mind that during the 30+ years that the diet has existed there have been countless studies resulting in negative conclusions, leading up to today. There have been, what, 2-3 positive studies just recently (about the same thing - reducing "bad" cholesterol, but not about most of the other negative study results)...so painting it as absolutely good is wrong. Also, how can you say it is lifestyle and not diet?
The words "quick weight loss" is scary to me. When I hear people want to drop 25lbs in a month, I shake my head. Unless you a finely tuned athlete, losing more than 3lbs a week is unhealthy. That's a lot of strain on your heart to lose so rapidly. That's the world we live in though, everything is NOW; to hell with the consequences!
