Well right now you are comparing numbers of DMo at center for the most part with Jones only at PF. They are somewhat close with DMo out of position, with DMo playing the 4 things would be different (though Jones at the 4 will outrebound DMo at the 4 and have more blocks).

Jones just works much better with the bench unit because that's a unit that is super athletic and thrives running the court and scoring in transition....just like Jones. I think he fits right in with Smith and Brewer and could help make our bench unit very formidable.

Well DMo for the most part started at PF with Dorsey at C and he was playing better, once Jones came back into the starting lineup is when he moved to C, so for the most part those numbers are with DMo at the 4.

That's reasonable, but it's also the exact same reason why I think he's a better fit in the starting lineup.

Jones and Smith have a lot of skills that overlap, to me right now the starting lineup doesn't have enough guys that get out and run, Howard, Beverley, Ariza and DMo are all minus transition players. Adding Jones gives a little more balanced attack and a more versatile 4 that can score without plays being ran for him.

DMo in the 2nd unit with Josh Smith also provides more balance with that unit, there are already enough guys that run (Brewer, Smith) and it would be great for them to have a low post threat. Additionally, it's not like DMo backing up Dwight would mean much less minutes for him since Dwight is probably not gonna play over 30 minutes usually.

P.S. last game he was in right place, going straight up with hands straight as a poles. I think minimum three shots were altered and nothing good happen to Hornets.
Yes, DMo is not Dennis Rodman, but offensively - I like when Vucevis in desperation waives his hands cause he did defensively everything he could, but that still wasn't good enough.
Those hook shots are sneaky, footwork is magical, and three point started to fall. And willing passer. And bbiq pretty damn good :)What else do you want - be Goberts size and play phenomenal defense? Not going to happen :)

I personally am very happy to have both, although I do think it is a very reasonable and legitimate discussion to determine who starts at PF, there are pros and cons to each player.

Despite what most people on here think I believe that both can have a role on this team for years to come.

The problem with Jones in the starting lineup is that he can't stretch defenses because he's not a 3 point shooter that has to be respected. If he's going to score, it's going to be in the exact same spots that Dwight scores. Also Jones doesn't set the picks and doesn't facilitate ball movement like DMo does. Basically despite Jones being great in transition and being really athletic, he's just not versatile enough to be the best fit with the starters IMO.

When he's with the bench unit you can simply run the other team off the court with super athletic guys. Hell you could have a unit that had Smith, Jones, McDaniels (I know it won't happen), Brewer, and Johnson (I know it won't happen), if that wouldn't be the fastest, most athletic unit in the NBA, I don't know what would. Also they'd get to pick on bench players.

Jones can hit an occasional three, he also has an oddly effective (not sure why everyone falls for it) pump fake out there and can handle the ball well enough to attack and create off the dribble, something DMo can't do. If DMo isn't spotting up and shooting the three, HE is the one scoring in the exact same spots as Dwight, not Terrence. Terrence can hit a short jumper, drive to the rim and is an elite finisher. Spacing the floor isn't all about shooting the three ball.

Jones isn't going to score with any kind of efficiency further than a couple feet from the rim, DMo can. That's sort of what I was talking about. Spacing may not be ALL about shooting the 3, but it's mostly about that. Sure people are falling for Jones' pump fake now, but he's not really a player that other teams game plan for, when other teams get a bit more exposure to him they'll stop falling for it and then guys will play off of him killing spacing.

I mean that's just assuming things, I guess we'll see who McHale goes with when Jones gets back for a few games. It's really too bad Jones had all these injuries this season, he is much improved from last year in limited time.

Fair enough, I think it's a pretty safe assumption that as the league figures out that he doesn't have any shooting range that they'd play further and further off of him because they've done that with so many others.

I do agree though that it sucks that Jones has struggled so much staying healthy, hopefully he'll be all set for the playoffs.

He has improved his 3PT% every season, don't see why he wouldn't continue to improve. DMo was terrible until midway through this season, so it can happen for TJ too.

It's true, he has gotten better every season, but he's still not there. If he was on another team I'd want our guys to encourage him to shoot and play off of him to kill the spacing and prevent him from getting to the rim. Maybe next season he comes out hitting them better and that would change everything.

Nah, he was abysmal first 11 games in the season. Somewhere after that he was the best three point shooter on the team. Tired to pull out numbers, posted them before :)He doesn't shoot much, but it's very useful for the team. DMo's post moves can make opponents bigs to question their life :) But combination of two - from a strong dude, that's pretty good.

As was already clearly demonstrated and proven last year in the playoff series against Portland, when an opponent gets us in a 7-game series Terrence's pump fake from distance doesn't work. They dare him to shoot it. And more often than not, he turns the shot down and winds up running the shot clock down while he tries to use multiple fakes to bait the defender in close to him where he can drive around him. DOES NOT WORK IN A 7-GAME PLAYOFF SERIES.

Dude nobody is game planning for Dmo either. Besides why you keep pumping up Dmo. Both players will be key in our championship run. Both players have unique skill sets. Both players can get you 20-10 every so often. Jones is very good in help defense while Dmo is good with positioning defense. Both players can score in the paint.

Pump fakes don't work in 7-game series.

    The fail continues.

Your blanket extrapolation and misinterpretation is the fail.

Dirk Nowitzki's pump fake works in a 7-game series.

Terrence _ones's pump fake DOES NOT work in a 7-game series.

This was his first playoffs series as a pro. And you can't use that as a barometer for this year's playoffs. That makes no sense whatsoever because the young fella has matured since then.

And guess what they will dare Beverley or Smith to take those shots as well.

Teams are very aware of Dmo's skill in the post. Those with strong post defenders will usually let it play on though.

The offensive difference between DMo and Terrence:

    1. DMo can take any big man one-on-one with his back to the basket. He broke down Anthony Davis, Omer Asik, and Alexis Ajinca.

Do you really think Terrence can do that?

    2. DMo can step out to the 3-point line and drill the jumper at an effective rate.

    Terrence cannot.

    3. Terrence can dribble the ball from end-to-end off the defensive glass and take it all the way and finish it. DMo can bring the ball up and pass it off. Won't take it to the hole off the dribble very often and basically never off a full-court gallop.

    4. DMo has superior court vision and passing skills.

*They are both equally poor at the FT line.
**They are both the same quality finishers overall in the paint where both of them take roughly 75% of their shots.
