Nah in the first episode when his kids are sitting around the table.. He says, "now I need one of you negroes to be able to run this company" I was done. Extremely obvious you only watched one episode and think that one f**kin sentence about internet is representative of the show. How about actually watching the show for more than a minute instead of talking complete bs and painting a wrong picture of the show.
There are A LOT of white shows. More failed shows than popular ones, but you have choices. There are only a handful of black shows/movies that have black leads and all do pretty well in the ratings and at the box office. For some reason Hollywood and Nielson don't know why it's happening despite having the numbers right there in front of them. You always read the headline surprising box office/ratings for - insert black property. I think TV and movies have become more diverse but the black audience is still underserved. Black audiences want to see people and situations they can relate to. Blackish, Scandal, HTGAWM, Housewives of Atlanta, Empire, The Game, Sleepy Hollow.. I can go on about all the shows that feature more than one black person that have "surprising ratings." In Hollywood you have black movies that do well despite having meager budgets: Kevin Hart movies, Tyler Perry Movies, Best Man Wedding, Dear White People, No Good Deed, struggle biopic films, etc. Black people hungry for this stuff.
When I first saw the previews I thought this show is going to suck and never tuned in. I got a offer for a free month hulu and figured I would give Empire a shot to see what the buzz is about. To my surprise it is actually way better than expected. I binge watched my way through the first 5 episodes like there was nothing to it.
Hate to tell you......Blacks alone are not going to make these shows succeed. Scandal and HTGAWM are huge because white people watch. Empire is getting the young demo from black, white, and hispanic. Right now...only The Walking Dead is getting better age 18-48 numbers. The Empire final had 17 million viewers...the show is getting huge cross-over numbers.
