I'll support Dream a little. Everyone has a bad game.

    But....

Dream please at least run the floor when you're on the court. He is constantly the last one back.

I would rather see Dream play hard for 12-15 minutes a night than to see him go throught the motions for 20-25.

As I said about a month ago I feel sorry for the young rockets fans who never saw this man in his prime, and will only remember the current Dream we are seeing now. It is truly sad.

All you guys who are all over Hakeem and his "embarrasssing" and "sad" performance, take a minute to look at this.

    Olajuwon 28 minutes, 0 from 9 (4 points), 6 rebounds and 1 turnover.

Carlos Rogers and Kelvin Cato combined for 40 minutes,1 from 4 (2 points), 5 rebounds and 2 turnovers.

I'll admit that Olajuwon's performance was not what we expect but he was better than Rogers and Cato put together! Now that is "embarrasing" and "sad". At least Hakeem has the excuse of being old and having nothing to prove.

Quit harping on how bad Hakeem is and look at where the real problem is.

Those guys took some difficult -- you could say dumb or desperate -- shots. Hakeem's were great looks. Nearly all of them were inside 10 feet. Many of them were 5 feet. Two of them were as simple as going straight up and stuffing the ball through the hoop, if he'd tried hard enough. Some others were virtual layups. Something is seriously wrong with him. I'm beginning to wonder whether it's his eyes, brain, or nervous system. I hope not, but what else can explain such consistent and shocking lapses?

Davo -- It's because we love the guy and because he's the greatest Rocket ever that we're riding him so hard now. Cato will never be more than Cato. Rogers will never be more than Rogers. But Olajuwon -- how could the great one be reduced to this?

I didnt get a chance to watch the whole game but man, go easy on the guy. Im sure if the guy goes off for 20-25 sometime soon, this conversation will be forgotten. He just doesnt have it in him to break through slumps as quicly anymore. More importantly, the Rockets young need his advice and tips. So Hakeem, please work with these people!

All the Rockets are playing awful. They couldn't win a big road game if all their mamas were gonna die if they lost. I, for one, would like to know what happened to our team? What...Walt is out and we suck bad now? We are absolutely terrible! I am sick to my stomach just watching the Rockets any more. No defense at all....sporadic offense...is this the team that's going to lead us to the promised land? I'm sorry but I think not. Absolutely horrible...the season can't end soon enough. I thought we were better than 24-39...boy was I ever wrong. In fact I think we are playing more like a 16-48 team.

We still have some Rocket shuffling to do! We are a few seasons away from getting back to playoff form.

We'd be better off if we signed the Bangles to play center for us.

Dunk obviously you do need a dissertation as this is a game action forum. Hakeem stunk last night. So come forth with all the Hakeem posts.

Something tells me that if Hakeem would of had a great game night last night and there were several threads on his great game, you wouldn't be complaining about it.

    Hey,

I just wanna say I love Dream and he is the sole reason I got into basketball and it is very hard to watch him play so poorly and have such a hard time against players he would once devour on a consistent basis - but I still don't think it warrants this much bashing. Cut him some slack.

Why the hell should he play hard - he knows the team is not going anywhere this year - him busting his behind everyday isn't going to change anything. He has nothing to prove to anyone, nothing to accomplish, esp when the playoffs are a faded dream this year. He has amassed every recognition possible for a player, save a scoring title. He's been to the big dance and then back for more. Players like Ewing are still out there trying to get a taste of what it feels to go where Dream has been - no wonder they are playing as hard as they can.

Its just like when you get a bad grade in school and your parents are like 'it happened cuz you didn't study hard enough.' How the hell do they know how hard I tried? There have been times when I studied my ass off and still only managed to pull off a C.

So following this same logic - yeah, Dream looks absolutely pathetic, no arguments, but how do you know he isn't trying his best- you don't know what he is going through - its easier said than done - ALWAYS. You don't know what he is feeling, how not being able to do something normally might be frustrating for him also.

Not one person here has said that Hakeem still rules - everyone realizes that he is on his last legs - why do we need to ridicule the man every day with a new thread. Why kick someone when he is already so down - let him be.

Well, thats all I had to say :)

Fine Will, I agree with you - there is something wrong with Hakeem and both he and the club should be doing everything they can to get him back into game shape. Retiring is not one of those things.

If you truly believe that Hakeem is injured, why do you join in the chorus of kneejerk bandwagoners calling for his retirement? Sure, if the injury is life threatening or long term, then he should retire but we don't know that.

The Rockets basically have two options:-
    a) Have Hakeem retire/buyout his contract, in which case most(if not all) of Hakeem's salary will still count against the cap and WE WOULD STILL BE OVER THE CAP NEXT YEAR.
    b) Have Hakeem play out his final year, hoping that he recovers and provides some useful input (lord know Cato could use his help)

    Which would you prefer?

Will:Those guys(Cato & Rogers) took some difficult -- you could say dumb or desperate -- shots
Cato and Rogers miss enough easy shots without having to worry about all the dumb and desparate ones they take.

Will:Two of them (Hakeem's misses) were as simple as going straight up and stuffing the ball through the hoop, if he'd tried hard enough.
Thats funny because Cato and Rogers pretty well define the term "missed dunk"

Don't get me wrong, I'm not completely off Cato and Rogers. I just take exception to Hakem (an aging superstar, suffering an injury/affliction, recovering from surgery)getting all this attention when you have two young healthy players performing worse than him.

You all should be a lot more worried about our future players than our past ones.

    I was thinking...

Do you think Malone, Ewing, Robinson and the others who consistantly got pimp slapped by Dream are happy to see him like this?

You know that before, Dream use to scream at Malone when he was flopping all over the place. And he could do that back then because he was the best. Now, he can't even say a damn thing because what is he gonna do? Score 10 points on ya?

Man, to me Dream is losing respect.(For my boy Mantronix, I won't mention Jordans name. OOOPS, sorry)Jordan never would let anyone embarass him. Neither did Bird or Magic. Or Thomas. Doesn't Dream realize that his mere presence use to send shivers down peoples spine? The guy can't even walk out on the floor let alone run. I just can't get over how Shaq dunked on him and then pushed him to the floor last year. That hurt bad. This guy is my idol. Its sad to see this. I hope he leaves. Its really painful if you are a Dream fan.

Mah god, I remember that game...Dream was absolutely HORRIBLE.

That game was on TNT and was embarrassing. That was the fingernail clipping game, right?

I could bring up plenty of 2-18 Cuttino games. Hakeem had a horrible game. That's it. Every player has to go through games like this. Its a shame it had to happen to Hakeem later on in his career, but oh well. This doesn't really apply to Hakeem this year, since he has played well in almost all of his games. You forget he had terrible asthma last season.
