Bush's drug plan has little to do with anyone who already is covered from work. Actually it has nothing to do with those alreayd covered from their work. The drug plan isn't mandatory and it's for senior citizens.

I consider my bah humbug post as participation but if you prefer I will transport myself to an alternate universe where all events are the same except without the 911 attack................

    1. Would we have fought the Taliban?
No, Dick Morris said Sudan offered to deliver Osama Bin Laden to the US for better relations after the 1994 Trade Center Bombing and they didn't even know who he was.

    2. Would we have invaded Iraq?
Not a chance, Bush campained against using US troops in the political struggles in other countries, especially in Nation Building, which is the only logical course of action after taking down a totalitaian regime in a fuedal country

    3. Would the patriot act have made it through?
Made it through? It would have never been conceived, even in John Ashcroft's wettest wet dreams.

    4. Would we be ignoring the domestic economy?
If Clinton taught the Repubs anything it is that "it is the economy , stupid"

Tech stocks and the .com boom were a joke that Clinton fed on for his whole administration all the while ignoring corprate corruption, and now that crap is over and people are finding out they have to get real jobs again. It sucks to be us, but the economy has been up since April if you actually look at the market and predictions are for August to be down and then for September to take right off again. I have no idea what this post has to do with anything and I'm going to go to bed now.

Actually he didn't ignore it. He proposed legislation that included many of things that have been passed post Enron scandal. Some of the very things Clinton asked to have brought into legislation would have helped prevent an Enron from happening.

I don't lay all the blame in the laps of Republicans by any means. The fact is that many if not most of the democratic congressmen didn't want to enact serious legislation either, and they sided with big business. So I'm not trying to defend Clinton or the Democrats, but to say Clinton did nothing and imply that he knowingly looked the other way while these big business practices were running rampant isn't exactly true.

    1. No

    2. Yes, probably... I think enough will eventually come out that reasonable folks will see that this Admin was set to get into Iraq even before 9/11 and those events just gave them a much easier path.

NO to 1, 2, and 3. I agree with Mr. Clutch. 9-11 totally changed Bush's presidency, for better or for worse. My guess is that w/o 9-11 this administration would have been worse to the liberal-minded for it would have focused more on domestic issues.

As to #4, I away believe that the president (any president) is getting way too much credit or blame for the economy.

A better hypothetic question is, what would it be like if 9-11 happened in Clinton's time? Was there any reason the terrorists picked that year to do the job?
