I use Kaspersky. It works extremely well and also gets rid of the banner ads and pop-ups better than any previous security software I had used in the past. I've used it for about 5 years now.

I recommend Panda Security anti-virus, developed by Isreal, tested in China.

This is not a joke. It's the best technology out there. But beware, some of think Isreal developed this as war-ware, to gain access to your machine.

Windows Defender and Malwarebytes (spelling?) is more then enough. Boot in safe mode. Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall everything that looks fishy, leave it alone if you're unsure. Then run scans with the two programs I mentioned. You'll be set.

Malwarebytes is my go-to for anything. I have it on every computer I own. I learned about it after getting some pretty awful ransomware that I couldn't get rid of. It is also free.

If Malwarebytes cannot get rid of it, I recommend reformatting.

Or, if you have another PC, you can pop out the hard drive and install it in the healthy PC and then run malwarebytes on the attached drive from the healthy PC. That's what I would try first if you have the hardware.

Panda antivirus mistakenly flags itself as malware, bricks PCs

@ZDNet...lols...who paid you to print that

That's an American media anti, anti-virus attack on the Israel anti virus.

Do a search for any anti-virus software and you will find ZDNet or other media outlets downplaying it or glamorizing it. That's because they are media. If you believe everything you read in the high tech world, your head will snap off from spinning too much.

trust me. Israel has the best internet security in the world.

Panda is the #1 security you can buy commercially, if you trust them anymore than the homeland security stuff

Don't know much about security anti-virus stuff or PCs, but it's not just ZDNet... BBC and many many others. They aren't reviewing Panda, just reporting on something that actually did happen. I just happened to come across it today, and thought I'd share.
